(CNN)-- Sen. John McCain on Monday called for a $300 million prize to whoever can develop a battery that will "leapfrog" the abilities of current hybrid and electric cars.
McCain called for a "Clean Car Challenge" for U.S. automakers, to develop and sell vehicles with no carbon emissions. The cha llenge would allow $5,000 tax credits to buyers!

Automakers already have the technology to produce very capable and efficient electric cars (anybody remember the GM EV1?) Politicians don't want fully electric cars to succeed, they want plug-in hybrids. Why? Because they still use SOME oil, which is profitable and will make the oil last longer (better MPG) without the big oil companies having to invest in drilling elsewhere. McCain is just trying to make himself look good. Watch "Who Killed the Electric car?" on YouTube (9 parts to it).

Here's some advice. Obama has stated that he wants to raise the capital-gains tax by 30 percent. In a weak economy, his policies would only lead us into a depression. Capital Gains tax is double-taxation on corporations. Every time it is lowered, it is followed by a period of strong investment and prosperity, but politicians like Obama make the wealthy the enemy and so can get away by framing his socialist programs as aid to the middle and lower class. They would destroy the middle class.
