Technique means jack shit if you haven't got anything to show for it musically.

What the heck does that mean?
It means that I ... ( 8 months ago by durkmeister)
It means that I personally get very bored of players who fetishise technique to the extent of not really having anything musically interesting to say. Not that Wynton is one of these, but it's just a general point i was making.
Can anybody tell me ... ( 8 months ago by kirkbp1965)
Can anybody tell me what the name of this song is? Herlin Riley kicks ass and stays with Wynton all the way like Trane and Elvin did.

Thanks, you just confirmed what I said earlier that the piano was kind of in Wynton's way. I initially thought the piano player was Dan Nimmer, but I emailed him and he said he wasn't on this gig. Not sure why people gave me a thumbs down on my earlier comment.

Dude you really suck as a person in general. How can you criticize somebody who will literally shit on yo ass when it comes to trumpet. Miles would've just f**** you up and Wynton will.....you already know. you are just ignorant as hell. What a terrible mistake
First of all, you ... ( 5 months ago by scoggles)
First of all, you don't know who I am. Second of all, I can criticize constructively because I consider myself a musical peer. Thank you for calling me ignorant, though, and then peppering your personal attack with profanity. I appreciate that.
I don't have to ... ( 5 months ago by brassdictatorship)
I don't have to know your identity to know you lack intelligence. Constructive Criticism one only works whent the person, i.e. Miles Davis is around....hmmm seems that he's dead and two you can't criticize him for not being a virtuoso be cause one he actually was you couldn't have possibly listened to every recording out there two it was kind of hard to be a virtuoso player in a Jazz Era. Let us reminisce on the fact his music was born in that era so that is all he knows. You're welcome
Constructive ... ( 5 months ago by scoggles)
Constructive criticism of an exemplar from history works for young musicians today to learn from. As for which one of us lacks intelligence, we'll have to wait for you to grow up to figure that out. I have, in fact, listened to (and transcribed most of) every Miles recording. Virtuosity in the jazz era was entirely possible. Armstrong was the man who made jazz a virtuoso art. Miles was full of himself. Yes, he was a good musician and a brilliant soloist, but not a great trumpet technician.
Alright if you say ... ( 5 months ago by brassdictatorship)
Alright if you say so, no point of arguing online it's all about the music

Technical advancement does not equal musical achievement.
scoggles: your glib ... ( 3 months ago by kevinherbert)
scoggles: your glib, musically uninformed comments lead me to think that you're most likely the kind of person who should be selling instruments, not commenting on the playing of them. Post some of your playing, or shut up..of course you're entitled to your opinion, but then again so is George W Bush.....
Exactly which part ... ( 3 months ago by scoggles)
Exactly which part of what I said was musically uninformed? I'll post my own videos when I have some videos to post. Meanwhile, I'm not going to stop having a discussion about musicianship just because I don't own decent A/V equipment. I also would like to respectfully request at this time that no further equation between myself and the President of the United States be made. Thank you.
