well actually, "the search" is what i consider the best track in conan's soundtrack, the main theme was wonderful as well... so i dont really understand your statement "but do you really think that the entire movie soundtrack consisted entirely of catchy, quick and easy material"?! ... i loved every piece of that soundtrack... calling the main theme "catchy, quick and easy material" is far from the truth, making me wonder whether you actually are a composer?
No, sorry I ...( 3 months ago by revoltz7)
No, sorry I probably used the wrong words to describe that piece. I just wanted to get across the point that there has to be more than just thematic material.

thematic as in the "main theme" or as in "made for one movie"?
Thematic as in, ...( 3 months ago by revoltz7)
Thematic as in, music consisting of a the main theme, or another theme.
Eg

Also watch out for thematic material at 1:00. Now listen to how much more accomplished Williams music is. Oh and if you don't like the non-thematic parts (the more abstract bits) don't think that there is anything wrong with you, you just need to get used to hearing more difficult harmonies before you can appreciate them.

i like the star wars soundtrack very much, and it fits the movie very well (that's what soundtracks are for), i can appreciate the "abstract bits", which i really don't find abstract at all. watch the scene "the search" and listen to its music... it's an art painting in motion...or the incorporation of chains being broken during "the atlantean sword" and if you don't "get it" don't think that there is anything wrong with you, it's just a shame you can't enjoy it.

i think you are not familiar with basil's work on conan the barbarian... i should slap you for that one! i recommend downloading that soundtrack, or better yet, see the movie.
I'll look for that piece on youtube for you, probably it has been removed.

I never said Hans ...( 4 weeks ago by noctus)
I never said Hans Zimmer was good or bad. What you think of Uwe Bolls is another matter. However, Hans Zimmer is the musical equivalent of Uwe Bolls. Or pubes on a blowup doll. Decorative, but not serving a real purpose.
You are an ...( 4 weeks ago by PianoFilmscore)
You are an ignoramus. How about you do some sociographic study on Zimmer's influence on artists and composers before you start to say shit like that. Zimmer has the single most influence on film composers in history. JOHN WILLIAMS HIMSELF said that in an interview. DO RESEARCH on topics, just because its your view, doesn't mean its right.

not serving a real purpose? I BEG to differ. Hans is more concerned with PSYCHOLOGY with his music than anything else. And that is the purpose of film music. As much as i respect composers with great musicology, psychology is still the first place of business in film music. Listen the Dark Knight. I hate people who criticize film music aesthetics when in only actual fact they're obviously only interested in listening to its surface.
I'll look for that piece on youtube for you, probably it has been removed.
