You could say the same thing about prison. Life without parole has nothing to do with rehabilitation and equaly about vengeance.
I met a woman whose ... ( 1 year ago by cgmcmillan)
I met a woman whose father was murdered when she was a young girl. Then, when she grew up, her husband was executed by the state of Texas (fairly recently). I haven't checked this out, but popular wisdom is that most murder victims "know" their killers. I'm wondering if the answer would change for those who are "for" the death penalty if you ask if they would want it for someone they know or love?
Life in prison with ... ( 1 year ago by planetfall)
Life in prison with its daily exposure to rape, brutality and confinement is not only truly cruel, but it is also very unusual punishment. The gentle, sterile injection of lethal drugs is the merciful, easy way out.
That's a good ... ( 1 year ago by guerillatraveler)
That's a good question. And yes most murders done by people who know their victim. The death penalty seems to be on the way out--at least for now.
I am for the death ... ( 11 months ago by ma7799)
I am for the death penalty and agree that some criminals just need to die for their crimes! BTW, when did execution become a form of rehabilitation?
I agree with you. ... ( 9 months ago by cutelovelylisa)
I agree with you. It is sad that we are the minority. I mean the majority of people agree with the death penalty. It makes me mad because no one has the right to take another life. and mad is right.. it doesn't stop killers from killing. Have you seen crime rates decline? NO!!!!!

i am against the death penalty. How can society justify MURDER!!!
Objectively the ... ( 8 months ago by gavindaysaccount)
Objectively the death penalty seems like a barbaric and hypocritical act. Most-anti death penalty opinions are held together with the simple viewpoint that killing is morally wrong. But faced with a brutal murder carried out consciously, the death penalty is an appropriate action. Under certain circumstances there is very little justifiable debate that anything other than death is necessary. Whilst we are all victims of the personal circumstances we are born into, we alone control our actions.
I wish the question ... ( 7 months ago by bravewave1)
I wish the question was are you for/against capital punishment? Then are for/against abortion? that should weed out the hyporcrites.
child molesters ... ( 7 months ago by bravewave1)
child molesters historically don't rehabilitate none of them not documented anyway.
Just like abortions. ( 7 months ago by bravewave1)
Just like abortions.
I suppose what you ... ( 6 months ago by guerillatraveler)
I suppose what you are suggesting is that someone who is for abortion would be a hypocrite if they were simultaneously against the death penalty because both acts are in effect murder. There is still the legal question of at what age does a reasonable man consider a person to be a person, notwithstanding the special relationship between a mother's body and that of her child.
I'll thow it out ... ( 6 months ago by guerillatraveler)
I'll thow it out there but a better example of hypocrisy might be those who support war but do not support the death penalty. War after all is licensed killing.
The truth is that ... ( 6 months ago by guerillatraveler)
The truth is that most reasonable people support the death penalty for those who admit murder or agsinst whom the evidence is irrefutable (dna, reputable witnesses). The problem remains that innocent people do get convicted of capital crimes. See the recent book by John Grisham or research death row history for the last twenty years. It's illuminating.
What difference do ... ( 6 months ago by guerillatraveler)
What difference do you see between death penalty and capital punishment as names for state organized killing of convicted murderers? Capital punishment is legalese isn't it?
I do not support ... ( 6 months ago by bravewave1)
I do not support any war .
I guess you are the ... ( 6 months ago by bravewave1)
I guess you are the reasonable man? You get to decide? Life begins at conception just because a bunch of judges "resonable men".Lets make abortions retroactive then call it something besides the death penalty.
I'm not sure I ... ( 6 months ago by guerillatraveler)
I'm not sure I understand you. The "reasonable man/person" is a common law term. It has nothing to do with my opinion. It's just a legal idea to set some kind of standard for right behavior in a given situation. If you or I were on a jury we'd be instructed to form a verdict based on that standard.
i would have liked ... ( 2 months ago by XvXvX)
i would have liked to have heard the 1st guys reasoning. first he said 'tough question, depends on the circumstances' and then it cut to 'against'. the death penalty is an extremely outdated concept. and i don't care whether offing people saves taxes. we know the answer isn't as simple as humans being good or evil anymore. i thought we'd evolved. women don't get hung for being 'witches' anymore either. it's just as outdated as creationism. it's 2008. psychology is a broad field. AGAINST.
I AM AGAINST it see ... ( 2 months ago by bootleg365)
I AM AGAINST it see why make it easy on them put them in a box throw some food in there once in a while if they die ok but dont do them a favor and yes if they confess they guilty no doubt but if not then just keep then in jail till they can prove they didnt casue they gotta prove they did it first of all for a sentence
Perhaps someone ... ( 1 month ago by CULAVE)
Perhaps someone could help me with this question. Why is the method of firing squad not used? I don't accept that lethal injection or the chair is quick. A firing squad would surely be cheaper anyway. thanks

I would say that im against the Death Penelty but dont make their prision time as nice as it is now. Give them hard labor, etc...
do you know what ... ( 1 month ago by pyr666)
do you know what goes on in high security prisons? if the other inmates don't try to kill you, you have a wonderful little cell all to yourself 23 hours a day. try that for a month. dead is just dead, any suffering has to come beforehand (and we actively try to avoid that) and what of all the innocent people who get convicted, what of their justice? there have been over 200 cases where people on death row were exonerated.
