The great Duke and his orchestra. Sorry but after Jimmy Hamilton's playing everyone else should quit(including our friend kenny... no...just kidding!)
P.S: U can check the other version I'd posted too.

I'd say that Monk's piano playing came out of Monk!

That's what I originally thought until I got into listening to a lot of Duke. Everyone's playing comes from someone else, at least partially. That doesn't mean that each one doesn't put their own style in addition to that.

Could be Ray Nance on trumpet.

according to his autobiography he wrote that song in fifteen minutes. freaking amazing
Not Jimmy Hamilton ... ( 3 months ago by OttoLink10)
Not Jimmy Hamilton - it's RUSSEL PROCOPE! Jimmy is sitting in the background. Willie Cook on trumpet - not Ray Nance. Willie Smith in the background - had replaced Johnny Hodges for a while. As Clark Terry said, "Duke could out-monk Monk! Monk knew Duke's music AND his playing! Of course Harry Carney played bass clarinet - also clarinet; he played the clarinet lead on "Rockin' In Rhythm."

Oh - as far as Duke writing it in 15 minutes: Barney Bigard wrote the song. He also played clarinet in the band earlier.

because it requires a multi-cooperative effort from talented people to play it - which you can't find any more. American culture no longer encourages the youth to learn to play instruments like it did , kids either rap, play in garage bands on their own, or play Guitar Hero - few join school bands, and music education has no funding. Back in the day, you were cool if you could learn to play horn, piano, whatever - so people composed for it. just my two cents ;)

Actually, where I am from, the band programs are huge. My high school band had more than 250 people in it and we had an amazing program. And that is pretty average for the area that I am. Most high schools are the same.

That's RusellProcope on clarinet, playing a New Orleans style beautiful tone.Usally Jimmy Hamilton took the clarinet solos also fantastic tone,a more modern sound. But for this beautiful tune it's perfect. The tune came from one of Barney Bigard practice figures, but Duke made a whole tune out of it.

yea, but this music is still very alive in high school music programs, but beyond that, colleges don't even encourage this music as much as they should, I go to WVU music school, and every thing there is abstract and more modernized
Mom loved Mood ... ( 2 months ago by MangoDaVille)
Mom loved Mood Indigo - she sang all the standards - loved to see the guys come over in overcoats with marcels, horns, doghouse bass, great memories. Sang with gardenia in her hair - very pretty. We used to jam at the Clef Club with the old timers. I posted Until the Real Thing Comes Along. Hope you post it. Thanks, Johnny Pal

Hey, let's not forget that Billy Strayhorn was gay, and contributed much to Jazz and Ellington's Band! Cecil Taylor is also a great musician. The aforementioned's shit has nothing to do with his sexuality.
