What about modern common rail engines. I hear you cant run these on veg oil. I have a new mondeo Tdci and was warned never to do this because of the high pressure set up?????
It's not the high ...( 2 weeks ago by bbtapb)
It's not the high pressure setup, it's two things: 1- car manufacturers don't want to deal with the unknown of owner-formulated fuel. 2- nozzles in high-pressure diesels have very fine orifices likely to clog without good filtration.
In cold weather, you have to be careful to keep fuel liquid.
Beyond that, petro-diesel sellers have scared people into thinking there's something wrong with running their engines the way Rudolf Diesel intended before his assassination.

Question.
If one owns a chippy, or access to used vegetable oil. Why do you have to tell the customs&excise, pay a little more tax just so you can use the home-made bio-fuel?? It all sounds a little ridiculous to me...
Damn good thing Japan has the world's most efficient public transport systems. No need to pay stupid FUEL-TAX imposed by a crap gov.
Minus is that ...( 1 week ago by jopiira)
Minus is that because you get oil for your car per place 10 litres. That is small amount because gas tank is 60+ litres. You must drive close 20-40km to get your tank to the tops.

Yea, you need a conversion kit, a diesel fuel tank because the car can't start up and can't be shutoff on straight Veg oil. It will clog up your lines, and it has to be heated on a cold day.
Also, it will eventually sieze the motor due to glycerine buildup.

on an èmpty tank use 10L of diesel fill the rest with oil. My landcruiser has run like that for ages without a problem. as for viscosity go on ebay and buy a heat exchanger and that will solve that. Your most welcome

i live in canada and some people still manage to do it, they just keep their cars in heated garages, but then you may think they're wasting their money on heating, but not if the garage is insulated really well... but it's still possible!
