I think it is "Harlem" they're singing about...it is a section of NYC on the upper part of Manhattan Island (aka "Uptown" by the locals).

Steely Dan opened ... ( 3 months ago by Fruth37)
Steely Dan opened for Chicago at old Tampa Stadium way back in '72 or '73. It was the first stadium concert help in Tampa. I saw lots of great shows there. Led Zepplin in '73, Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" tour, Clapton, Santana, Deep Purple, Trower, the list is almost endless. The Zepplin riot in '76 (I think) ended stadium shows there. Thanks for the memories!

This is Becker singing. Not Fagan and not the other guy that sings Brooklyn. Baxter is on the guitar work laced through the song and then he does the little lead thing matched with Denny Dias in the middle

Sorry, it is not Becker. "Everything Must Go" is the first official Steely Dan studio album where Walter Becker performs lead vocals on a song ("Slang of Ages").

Yeah, Jim Hodder drowned in his swimming pool in 1990. His BAC was more than three times the legal limit for driving in California at that time. Shame.
I love this song.
