This is really incredible. Amazing,a priest who is smart and has something good and interesting to say. Why don't they make this guy a bishop?

You forgot to mention that this movie has some unmoral aspects. EG: Foul language, Permarital sex is no big deal, or how DeCapprio's character has to let some bad things happen so that in the end he can trap the bad guys. I thought the end does not justify the means? I'd put a warning of being disturbing on this movie.

^ All real life, buddy. People swear, people have sex, and sometimes bad things have to happen for a greater good. What do you think undercover cops end up having to do? They can't let everyone else do the work or their cover is blown.
"Disturbed?" How so? ( 1 year ago by LuckGuy)

his point of view is interesting-but everybody has to remember that scorsese's work always contains a particular criticism to religion (the Institution-not the path to reach god)which demostrates his deep interest in the topic. Remember "the last temptation..?

...From this galaxy (the Internet) will the face of Christ emerge and the voice of Christ be heard? For it is only when His face is seen and His voice heard that the world will know the glad tidings of our redemption, therefore, I dare to summon the whole Church bravely to cross this new threshold, to put out on to the deep of the Net, so that now as in the past the great engagement of the Gospel and culture may show to the world ' the Glory of God on the Face of Christ.'(Pope John Paul II)

As a Catholic its cool to see one of my favorite movies talked about with a twist of religion. We def need more Holy men ins the world that are at least in touch with the modern world. It would be great to be in Mass and hear the Priest tie in the Departed to his sermon lol

Wow way to ruin a movie review by turning it into a religious thing. Its stupid it has nothing to do with religion at all fucking Christians think everything is about them

Thanks for that balanced and helpful response! I'd much prefer a counter-argument, friend.
Films allow people ... ( 3 months ago by actor1)
Films allow people to interpret their themes through different filters, be they religious, secular, social etc. Whether those observations are accurate or not are an entirely different matter but I fail to see how this guy's observations ruin the movie. Scorsese's films usually incorporate Catholic/religious themes.

I think he's right about the devil incarnate: homosexuality is evil and dark and wrong. And I quote Mathew 3:11: '[and] the Pooves did spread their flock over Galilee; and the Pooves did drain thy neighbor's well; and the Pooves did plunge thyn uncle's child; and the Pooves did rrrrum-a-pump Joseph's brump-a-pump'. One of my favorite Biblical passages: it gets me through my working day.
