So I was wondering what all the buzz was about with the video about Oprah denying Jesus Christ. Then I found out ....
Jesus died on the cross for our sins. And it is because of his sacrifice that we can have eternal life in Heaven. He can't be taken out of Christianity. The Bible, I know, wasnt written by Jesus, it was written by people with God's guidance. I'm not disagreeing with what Oprah's saying 100%, sh
e does use alot of Christian based philosophies and such in her spiritual series. I'm just saying that we are saved through the cross, the blood of Jesus, and theres no way around that. We need Jesus. End of story. Everything else in religion is mostly formalities that people get caught up in an
d thats where Oprah and I agree =] So yes there are alot of ways that we have complicated God and church and made things overly complicated through making up rules and rituals. I'm actually open-minded enough to see those things and go back to the root, which is the Bible, as a key as to how to l

The Israelites did a lot of things God didn't approve of either.
The point is that the Bible can (and has) been used to justify very many unacceptable things in the past. Discouraging mixed race marriages, slavery, women being 2nd class citizens, killing and discrimination of homosexuals, etc. This is just another thing - promoting interreligious hatred and con
flict. None of these things are acceptable on a human level, nor on a spiritual one.

Where is the spiritual fulfillment in criticising another for their religious beliefs? What positivity does that add to the world? And if you do not respect others beliefs, then how can you expect your own to be respected or listened to?
When you criticise others, you also criticise God. When you rubbish other religions, you also rubbish God.

And I am not tyring to criticize anyone, I am simply trying to share my view, and that is that I do believe I am sinful person and that I need Christ in my life and in my heart as my savior. Quite honestly, I sounded just like you before 4 years with my attitude towards Christianity ago until my life was changed when I finally accepted Christ and my life has changed tremendously since then in ways I cannot express in such short space.

people who have made mistakes and rubbished the world's view of Christians because they took advantage of words in the bible and twisted it to their advantage. There are many things I am ashamed of that they did, and I am honestly very sorry they did them/continue to do them. I am sorry because that is not what following Christ is about. But as a humans, we try and justify our actions and sadly, people have taken advantage of the bible to do so and they are wrong for that.

This is true, the israelites did do a lot of things God didn't approve of either. Which shows that they are human, that none of us are on the same level as God. None of the characters in the bible are perfect, except for Jesus, and they make mistakes. The bible isn't something that makes everyone in it seem perfect and righteous.
I agree, the Bible has been used in the past to justiy many unacceptable things. Keep in mind that these were people, sinful humans, who were doing this...

That is good for you, but I have also heard the same thing from people who converted to Islam. I have also heard the same from people who became Buddhists, and from people who started to follow Hinduism.
Everyone has the right to their religion, but I do not support exclusivism - saying we are the ONLY way. Because there cannot be only one way. For every human there is one way maybe, but for humanity there are as many ways as grains of sand on earth.

Furthermore, you ask why I care what oprah thinks/says? Because Oprah calls herself a Christian but then denies Christ as being the only way, which is the soul foundation of Christianity, if you do not believe this, you are not a Christian. She calls herself a Christ follower but then promotes things Christ would not approve of. I care because in the past, there have been people such as those previously mentioned in our conversation who do/promote unacceptable things

In thus doing so, they have created a negative and judgemental view of Christianity simply because they CALLED themselves Christians, when in fact they really weren't.

There is a film where a man's son converts to Islam, and the man says "I'm no Muslim, but if Allah can help him to be a better man than Jesus can, then I am all for it."
To everyone here, if Jesus helps you to be a better person, that is great for you. But don't tell others they must walk the same path you have walked. They must find their own way. Help them, sure... but don't dictate to them where they must put their feet.

But that is your interpretation of Christianity, not Oprah's. It is not set in stone. I read John 14:6 and do not see the same thing you see. Jesus' words mean something different to me than to you.

To me, he is not saying worship me, believe in me.
To me, he is saying live as I have taught, be compassionate as I taught, have the spirit in you which I showed you, and you will know your Father in heaven.
That is what that means to me. I am the light the truth and the way. If you live against the way which I taught, you will not find God or heaven.
And Jesus taught what many before and many after also taught. Do unto others as you would have done to you.

you yourself say that you believe jesus is teaching that "If you live against the way which I taught, you will not find God or heaven." Jesus teaches claims/teaches that He is the Son of God and says that He is the ONLY way, if you do not believe this, you are living against it.

I agree, the "why should I bother, its written in the Bible" line IS just the lazy man's excuse. It is also the line that I have never heard from the mouth or seen from the actions of someone who is truly a Christ follower and has a genuine relationship with Him. They are, including myself, the ones who ARE engaging actively and positively and going out and trying to make a difference in this world.
