No, I don't think he did anything convincingly to win the belt over. That's how they used to score these things (let's not even get into today's boxing world). Holmes had trouble with Witherspoon because a) Witherspoon is a huge guy with good reach and b) Witherspoon has that defensive style as Ken Norton did. But it looks like Holmes closed Witherspoon's left eye. You're right, the body punches were excellent and he did frustrate Holmes - there should have been a rematch.

I'm still mad at Ken Norton on that match he had with Larry. Larry was broughgt out and put in a stretcher..he gave it his all. Norton looked as if he'd just done a three mile run. He never had that killer instinct to him if he had, I think he would have won alot more fights than he did. And I bet he wouldn't argue much with that.

Is it available online?I am not one to call my hero the best boxer of all, all I know is that I couldn't stand fighters (some call boring) like Holmes especially cause he degraded people so often. I don't like that in anyone...even Santa Clause.

I can't understand why the commentators and Witherspoon thought they owned Holmes. At best, the fight was ambiguous for Witherspoon. I felt Holmes was more consistent, and the scorecards were fair. Historically, the challenger needs to soundly outscore or KO the champ to take his belt.
