Chris is alright. ...( 1 year ago by ivantpt89)
Chris is alright. He is not this great, super amazing player though. For anyone that truly knows about music, Botti is very... "average". He does make a lot of money, because of the way he is marketed. Kinda like the "Kenny G of trumpet". His tone is nicely deeploped, but he isn't anything special.
comparing Chris ...( 1 year ago by SirChadwycke)
comparing Chris Botti to Kenny G is INSANE. For one, Chris Botti can ACTUALLY improvise. Not to mention, he has actual CHOPS (i.e. DOESN'T lose his face after one bad rendition of a Christmas tune). when he loses the mute, he can whip the piss out of his horn. His tone is absolute buttah. Chris Botti > Kenny G.

how do you figure classical? he's no be bop player. I'm intrested to know why you think he's "classical". i think his music differs him very much from anthor other player out there niether classical, or straight ahead jazz.

Technically, Jazz ...( 1 year ago by MChasteen1)
Technically, Jazz is classical music. But I am sure you weren't educated as a musician so like most people you consider anything before the 1900's to be classical. Botti is a great jazz trumpet player. Yes, jazz (there are various styles and kinds of jazz, there is not really a 'straight jazz' - saying that is contradictory in itself since Jazz is usually swung).
I saw him perform ...( 1 year ago by MChasteen1)
I saw him perform in the Schermerhorn (Nashville, TN), and he played very well. It's not fair to compare him to other 'famous' trumpet players like Miles or Maynard, because what Botti does is far greater in his own way.
Aside from ...( 1 year ago by MChasteen1)
Aside from performing, Botti dedicated the entire performance to a little girl named Grace that he saw in the audience and even performed My Funny Valentine right at her table to encourage not only her, but to promote the arts to a new generation, which is one of the most important things one can do. I can see why he his career has been supported by those such as Opra W. Truly magnificent!
Botti had played ...( 1 year ago by mathias306)
Botti had played with Woody Herman as well as done studio work with Sting. Botti is something special and is not like kenny G. What he does on the horn is fluid and controlled regardless of register. He is much more than average, I don't love his music, but he deserves respect for how good he is. He puts one of the prettiest High E's I've ever heard on the end of this clip. Maybe you can do that, but I'll tell you not many pro's can do what he can do. And he's a GREAT straight-ahead player.

Have any of you heard him play very technical pieces like Allen Vizzutti or anything. Don't get me wrong, I think he's great, but my dad was saying that Botti isn't as good as Doc because he isn't good in all genres. Any opinions?
Go see him live. ...( 1 month ago by JohnpRiddick)
Go see him live. You can see that he has the ability to play technically and with versatility. His improv when you see him live is mindblowing... I was NOT expecting to hear it when I saw him live. It's just sick.
´t like him too much, he´s a bit too much classical for this music
