Those kinds of throws (Uchi Mata, Koshi Guruma, Harai Goshi) should be done while looking over your opposite shoulder. Looking at the ground takes a lot of power away from the technique, and puts you off balance (notice how he keeps falling over after each throw). Sure, you can get dragged down anyways, but you'll be in a MUCH better position, than going down face first, catching yourself with your hand (bad Karo).

Yeah. It all depends on the fighter. I find harai better because I'm usually taller than my opponents and the added sweeping really finishes it off. It is an awesome setup for kesa gatame which is good in MMA for ground and pound and are able to pull off ude garami. Out of the 7 matches I have won, harai has played a huge part in winning for 4 of them.
