i think cortez is cool.. but, i thought his slow count in spanish allowed juan manuel marquez to get up after he was KD'd for the third time on the first round of that 2004 fight. no one else seem to take note of that.

Its illegal to hold and hit, and Hatton did that way too much. At the same time, it's illegal to duck below the waist and put your elbow in someone's neck like Mayweather was doing. Thats why Cortez had such a hard time. Mayweather was standing right in front of Hatton and he couldn't hit him. He swings too wide and doesnt use a jab. Easy night of work for Mayweather. Theyre not going to throw out the clinching rule just for Hatton. That would be illegal too.

Cortez could have easily stopped the fight after the 3rd knockdown without counting, but he saw that JMM was not hurt, and JMM showed it by getting up before the count ended. Cortez made a good call and from there one the greatest fights of that year took place. Cortez is one of the greatest refs with decades of experience. There are some retarded refs that will let a hurt fighter continue and further their risk, or let a fighter use illegal tactics and they lose control of the fight.

Strict? Only when it's convenient to him. Strict? No, he went waaay beyond strict on that last match with Soto and Lorenzo. Ok, first of all, the hit was barelly there, there nontheless, but because of it's level of gravity, minor, the appropriate punishment should have been carried out: Point deduction. Which was a valiable action, one he chose not to take. DG was an absolute exageration, nothing there to admire. He's most absolutelly not the best, makes me wonder whats clouding your judgement.

It must be easy to judge sitting on your butt watching TV and judging. Nobody that posted here knows what they would do in this situation because none of you are qualified to be called a prof. Referee. educate yourself before you judge. Look up Boxing unified rules from ABC under number one and you will see Joe did his job to a T. Rules are not to be enforced only when convienant they are to be enforced all the time. Joe did his job correctly.

The doctor's told Joe that the fighter could not continue due to a concussive blow to the head. Blame the doctor's or blame the fighter But respect the man that enforces the rules and makes the decisions that he was hired to do. It's a tough job to have but he did his job well. Had Joe made any other decision after the doctors told him that the fight could not continue then Joe would have done something wrong. He knew it would not be a popular decision but it was the honest and right one.
