Diggin It was set up in 2006 to provide an organic garden as an alternative service for socially excluded and disadvantaged people. The garden aims to improve the mental and physical health of participants as well as reducing the repeat offending rate in troubled youths and children. It provides people of all backgrounds with the opportunity to muck in and learn about how food is grown, cooked and sold. Eventually, Diggin It hopes to improve the way that local people eat. Through product sales they aim to be a sustainable charity. Lottery funding has been vital in the success of Diggin It. The money paid for the 2.5 hectares of land, all of the equipment used to cultivate the land and all the buildings on it.
