oh, i thought this was the same guitar as in 'need me bad'. so you actually have two strats ? (i don't see my previous comment here anywhere nor do i see your reply btw... :s )

I also have a mexican JV strat. I recently got a Fender endorsement deal and got my new '57 relic I used in this video. It's the best strat I've ever had, even compared to a "real" '64 I had for a while. I favor a light weight ash body strat, as they seem the most lively and clear sounding, and also they seem more responsive to controlled feedback for some reason. Fender doesn't use ash much these days though they did make some in the 50s and 70s, with the 70s one usually being quite heavy.

so you're saying your 57 has an ash body ? i thought they normally have alder bodies. what i wanted to ask initially, is why you have a 'callaham' strat instead of 'another' fender ?
I got my Callaham ... ( 3 months ago by GlenKuykendall)
I got my Callaham back in '92. Back then I think it was the best thing going short of a genuine 50s strat, but I think the new Fender relics are finally up there too with the real vintage guitars.
Yes the '57 "heavy relics" are light ash and the much more common '56 "relics" tend to be alder.

oh, so the american vintage strats aren't as good as their 'relic' counterparts IYO ?
isn't the only difference the relic'ing ?

I tried an american vintage series blonde strat with an ash body. Very similar guitar except a thicker finish and no relic job. Nice guitar, but still it wasn't on the same level as the relic by a noticable amount. IMHO relics are better sounding guitars and it's probably that they use their best woods on these. I chose mine for the sound and feel, and the relicing was just part of the package though the feel of a worn neck is nice. GK

am i allowed to not like this amp? All ive heard for the longest time is how great the amp is, i always hate type. (it doesnt sound bad, just not living up to the hype) but on another note, i love your playing. Great technique, and i adore your phrasing. you have a great use of dynamics. Its nice to see someone have that kind of control of there instrument.

Well I'll admit the "hype" around these amps has much to do with the rarity plus so few folks have even played or heard one in person so folks talk. This song is a more laid back example of what a Wreck can do. "The Clipper" does sound much better on my CD version, compared to Youtube where the fidelity is reduced to lo-res mono the kind of mp3 audio usually reserved for dail up transmission. My use of dynamics has alot to do with the amp's agility to respond so the amp does help encourage that!

yeah rarity def. plays into the hype, much like the famed "Dumble" amps. but dont attribute your great playing and nice touch to a responsive amp. you would sound good plugged into anything, i bet. thats the mark of a good player.

Nice playing Glen. Love your natural tone in your hands. Really shows off the amp. You know in the end, I am convinced a great player can mic up and sound good through MOST amps. Alot of players forget that nowadays. You know, that tone starts from your hands/vision of what you want to play like.
No hype surrounding ... ( 1 month ago by guitarsandampsguy)
No hype surrounding an authentic Trainwreck in my opinion. I had the opportunity to play one recently in a studio setting, and can confirm these are the real deal. The most touch sensitive, responsive, dynamic amp I've ever played...and the best tone too. Turn up the bass and treble and turn down the mids and it is big, sparkly Fender clean...turn down the bass a bit, turn up the mids and it is full blown Marshall but with more balls and way more sustain. I sure wish I could afford one!

Hey man, really good sounds!! I have a question, how do you get that bright sound when your volume knob is rolled down? This is amazing! Congradulation!

The Trainwreck amp is just like that. The guitar has no "treble bleed" mods. I did change the pickups out for Lindy Fralins.

Your fender relic is based in what kind of fenders? 50th or 60th? Thank you!

It's a '57 heavy relic. Most 50s relics out there have alder bodies, a very curved neck radius, and period style small frets. The '57 heavy relic has an ash body, a flatter radius and tall frets. Tonally I really prefer the ash body as long as it's light. This guitar is under 7 1/2lbs.
