To find out how brutally accurate this F-1 game is, we tried a few races with Popular Mechanics Senior Automotive Editor Mike Allen riding shotgun. He's driven some of the actual tracks, and was all too happy to point where the game had it right, and where it wimped out.

I am an avid Formula 1 aficionado and I must say that this game is by far the 2nd closest to the "real-deal" other than the simulators that the teams use. I believe that in order to really appreciate this game you have to be a hardcore fan of F1. It is sad that this game's development didn't continue on past the 2006 season but for now it'll do. That's of course, if Codemasters can out do a very well made and realistic piece of work that Studio Liverpool has created.

I'm not sure on how to unlock the "FW16" vehicle in the game but I know that in order to unlock the Jerez Test Circuit, you have to obtain a gold medal award in all the race tracks in time trial mode.

I'm a huge fan of f1 and I have to disagree with you. this game is not done very well. it could have been alot better. but I will agree with you. MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD I WANTED AN F1 CE 2007 GAME. WITH LEWIS HAMILTON AND FERNANDO ALONSO ON MY FAVORITE TEAM vodafone mercedes.... If only :(

I will agree with you in reference to the fact that this game could have been better but there is no perfect game and this one has much to improve upon. Considering the game was developed in late 2006, it was spot on for it's time. I would have liked to see a safety car among many things but the fact of the matter is that among licensed Formula 1 videogames, this truly is the best. The experience that you take from game is more important than the graphics, the sound and even the replay value.

oh yeah i have, to unlock the fw16 you have to become world champion in career mode (do it on easy and you can win everything in a super aguri) and to unlock jerez you have to get all golden terget times in time trial.

yes thats true. but this game is far from being "close" to perfection.what i'm saying is all of us gamers look for gamea that are as close to realism as possible. this game is lacking in alot of areas.
yes I do think about that. for it's year of publication it's pretty good. and the safety car... the accidents in that game suck so theres no need for a s.c unless someone blows a motor. it is the best though. it's the only one on next gen systems. I think 09 will be the best. I know it will.

codemasters make games with good graphics and excellent crashing physics. just look at toca race driver 3 . brilliant game. hopefully this new f1 by codemasters will be the real deal. f1 ce 06 was good. but little things needed to be done to it .

I think that the upcoming game will look and sound better than this one but I am not confident that Codemasters has what it takes to make this game something other than "Dirt & "Grid", which is the only experience they have in racing games. Only time will tell though but like I said before I wouldn't put my money on them. =(

yea man I agree!!. codemasters makes very arcade like games and in the back of my mind I'm thinking."maybe they mess up and make this 09 f1 game a piece of shit". but I think that the fia will guide them. and hopefully they do there research on f1 . they can also take alot of good things from ea's version and put it into there own. my hopes arent high. this will be a big test for codemasters. and it's there first f1 game. who knows :\
