These plans are such a waist
Given that the A380 ... ( 3 months ago by PCisbull)
Given that the A380 is more fuel-efficient than their current fleets, I think it's self evident.
Is that thing ... ( 3 months ago by PCisbull)
Is that thing theory or already for sale? Has the fuel consumption been measured by an independent entity? Talk is cheap. Not saying it can't be true though, well could be, good job in that case.
One more advantage of the A380: less crowded airports: after the initial investment to accomodate a plane its size, it'll save money needing only one slot where other planes would need two for the same number of passengers.
And didn't you say ... ( 3 months ago by PCisbull)
And didn't you say Jumbos were no longer needed? Then why is Boeing scrambling to put something together to rival the A 380?
This is sort of ... ( 3 months ago by PCisbull)
This is sort of childish anyway. They are both good companies, and travellers would lose out if either of them were to discontinue business. We concur that competition is a good thing.
The jumbo het is 40 ... ( 3 months ago by YogaNate79)
The jumbo het is 40 over 40 years old... developed in 1966 and first flight in 1969. Boeing would know because these large planes never have been really big money makers. The 747 Intercontinental is only the same technology used in the 787 Dreamliner, but same 747 fuselage. Just more powerful engines, curled tipped wings, and an all composite made fuselage. All of their fleet is going to go green, not just the new 787.
The jumbos won't ever be profitable because there is no alternative to oil
The 747-8 ... ( 3 months ago by YogaNate79)
The 747-8 Intercontinental is more than 10 percent lighter per seat than the A380, and consumes 11 percent less fuel per passenger. That translates into a trip-cost reduction of 19 percent and a seat-mile cost reduction of more than 4 percent compared to the A380. The A380 carries more passengers, but not by much. Given the fairly equivalent size of the 747 though to the A380, the next generation tech found in the 700 series aircraft is a better buy because of the energy crisis.

So then there is the question, why the airlines orderd the A 380 and not the 747-8, although the 747-8 is so much better in your eyes?

The A380 is not ... ( 3 months ago by YogaNate79)
The A380 is not selling well. And liewise, the 747 will never sell either in my opinion and that's because jumbos and their functionality are over and done with for the most part. They'd have a much better chance turning a profit if they concentrated solely on cargo and freight rather than passenger transport. Fed-Ex dropped the A380 for the 777. I'd like to know is why a German airline, Lufthansa would buy 20 new 747-8 Intercontinental? Surely an American based airline wouldn't buy the A380.
The A380 has been ... ( 3 months ago by YogaNate79)
The A380 has been in development by Airbus since 2001 and has had 192 orders in those 7 years. In retrospect, Boeing has had the 747-8 in development since 2005 and has had orders of 105 in thosee 3 years. You'll find that Boeing has clinched more than half of the orders for the 747-8 than what Airbus has clinched for the A380. And all this done in a much shorter period of time. Both will never sell this plane because there is no sizeable and realistic market for such planes this size.
hm, the boeing 747- ... ( 3 months ago by ilonas8888)
hm, the boeing 747-100 was also not selling well in its beginnings. So this time it could be the same with the A-380 and 747-8. And Fed-Ex still are interested in the A-380F. The just took the 777 because Airbus stopped the A-380F so that they could concentrate on the tax version.
You live in Seattle ... ( 3 months ago by nortrdcmntsplz)
You live in Seattle. You working for Boeing, coincidentally? Of course no one here is in doubt about your impartiality... the 747-8 is an ages-old design, as you well know, and God knows why some Airlines are dumb enough to buy it, cos people will prefer flying the newer, cooler airplane that everybody's talking about. End of story.
The President and ... ( 3 months ago by YogaNate79)
The President and CEO of Airbus, Louis Gallois himself has admitted that the A380 is not selling well. In order for Airbus to turn a profit or come out even, Airbus would have to get at least 420 orders from airlines. So far they've got 192 orders. And the reason for this is because the Dollar continues to lose it's value. The further the Dollar drops, then the more loss Airbus suffers and the more planes they will need to try and sell to airlines.
That's just the ... ( 3 months ago by YogaNate79)
That's just the thing, the 747-8 has better technology than the A380. Yes the A380 is a larger plane, but not by much.
Bigger is not always better, especially when your competition can be the A380 in fuel consumption and cost per seat in a long haul plane such as the 747-8. I rely on facts and I don't know any businessman in the airline business who could not make smart investments when a barrel of oil is selling
at $110 that is nearly bankrupting the entire air travel industry.
The 747-8 ... ( 3 months ago by YogaNate79)
The 747-8 Intercontinental is a totally new nxt generation aircraft made of all composite materials and energy fficient engines. It is unbeatable in cost per seat and fuel consumption. The A380 burns more fuel because it has more weight. I don't know where you get your facts from, but your wrong and it makes you appear very ignorant.
Efficient engines? ... ( 3 months ago by nortrdcmntsplz)
Efficient engines? Neither Boeing nor Airbus make their own, and they both use the same suppliers (RR and some American one). Not so sure who seems ignorant now. "Between an aircraft that is at the end of a 40-year evolution and one at the beginning of what is likely to be a similarly long career, there is no contest." from The Economist. You cannot design a truly new plane from scratch in what like 3 years.
