It's the European Masterpiece! All Airbus-Planes use modern technology invented by Airbus. Boeing copies - fly by wire, sidestick, 787 fibreglas body (A380 is made from that too, at FIRST).
For the 787 Boeing buys parts all over the world, Americans haven't the knowledge for that modern technology (same companies deliver parts to Airbus & Boeing - the illumination system for the 787 & A380 is German, engines for both are British Rolls Royce).
BUT: the A380 landing gear is MADE IN CANADA!

Why did FedEx and many others cancel their orders for the A380 if it's such a better plane? Actually NASA developed the fly by wire system first. However, Airbus was the first to put them in commercial planes.

The A380 might be bigger, better... but Airbus is gonna be 3 years (maybe more) late on deliveries, the thing is so big that it will be just worth it to fly from on big airport to another. While Airbus has lost time trying to build an aircraft in which they lost already billions, Boeing is developping aircraft adapted to various markets and kick Airbus' ass really bad. America!!

i didnt realise this was a competition. some of you take this whole EU v US thing far too seriously... what the fuck does it matter? do you get an ego boost because your country designed the better aircraft? if so then you should get off you bloody high-horses unless you had something to do with the production or design of the aircraft. at the end of the day, both continents share information, share technology, share equipment and have high relations.

even on the A380 with its 270th delivery of the jet, but that break-even number has ballooned to 420 following the model's costly delay problems. AP says Airbus currently "has logged 189 orders or firm commitments for the plane."

Congrats to Europe for this amazing jet! There is plenty of room in the skies for 747 and the 380. We should work with the Europeans now to produce something as big as the 380 that goes Mach 3! :)

It all depends how you measure success. In the US, it seems that money is everything. In Europe we think differently. This plane might take longer to break even and turn a profit but while we wait - My God! what a plane - what a leap forward. In any case what would you do with the "quicker" money? buy more Coca Cola!
