I mean that this sonata sound better played by cello. so Viola need "more" of all:expression etc etc. and of course I know how cellist play this pice!!!

Yuri Bashment phrases it better IMO. This sonata works equally well with either cello or viola. For some reason, his tone doesn't project all that well. A GOOD violist can easily be mistaken for a cellist. Not the case here, unfortunately.

is that suppost to be insultive to cellists. Cellists own this piece. Have you ever Mstislav Rostropovich's Interpretation. Or Yo-Yo Ma's? They are full of emotion and color.
Like a cellist is a compliment.

This piece is so much harder on cello. We are playing in the same octave as the viola.

Very nice performance, european way to play.
I think is very easy to judge people seating from home... I suggest who like to criticize people without base should put they own video and let see if they are better playing than talking.

Very nice, but why does he begin with an up bow? His bowing is totally backwards. Screws up the phrasing. Obviously, he put a lot of thought into this, but trying to be different for the sake of being different is not always the best idea.

hey dont give him negatives for telling the truth. he didnt say it was a bad performance, it just said the cello plays it at the same pitch and therefore in a higher relative range. theres no denying it. i think this is a beautiful performance. and how massive is that viola?

Agreed, and I hate to say this as a violist, but the best rendition I've heard is Miklos Perenyi's on cello. Unfortunately I don't think William Primrose (the only REALLY good violist) ever recorded this.

Bashmet,has fantastic recordings,for example his recording of the arpeggione sonata ia my favorite.and then there is Tabea Zimmermann,i prefer her to Bashmet really often.

Bashmet is really good, but he's not like a David Oistrakh, Itzhak Perlman, or a Heifetz on viola. He's not what one would consider a "great artist".
