This is one of the most hauntingly melancholy songs ever sung. Brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it... 1980's music... nothing beats it, even many young people today, 2008, agree (since today's pop culture music is so different and so disruptive in ambiance, melody, and musicology..)

the difference is, regardless of the talent each performer has vocally, the original was written from the heart & soul of someone in the middle of an emotional storm - essentially from the heart. As far as 'sound' goes it can be covered by anyone, but emotionally it will always belong to Christine.

I dissagree with your last statement. Eva Cassidy's was recorded in the middle of an emotional storm. Dying of cancer. I'm pretty sure both artists sang it from the heart, and I would have to say that Eva's is not less emotional than Christine's, or the other way around. Different emotions, same intensity of emotion.
