The video was made on the riverboat "Spirit Of Peoria" in 1996 in Peoria, Illinois. Some of the best four string banjo players in the US at that time play the song "Alabama Jubilee". What you are looking at is a really incredible moment that occurred on our First Pumpkin Banjo Bash. The event or venue from this occasion was called the Spirit of Peoria Cruise. The players in the video are the headliners we were able to attract to our 1st event.
They are: Buddy Wachter... perhaps the best banjo player in the world who lives in Baltimore MD; Johnny Baier.... then from Orlando FL who also is a renowned banjoist, current Director of FIGA: Tim Allen from Toronto Canada.... Tim has numerous CD's... is a "Champion Banjoist" in many circles an
d just an incredible player; Paul Erickson from LaCrosse, WI who is just an incredible tenor player and has won numerous titles and recognition. These 4 guys we felt and continue to feel today as probably the best banjo players in the World. Certainly, midst the 4 string banjo community... every
banjo player would put these guys on their Top 10 list. Along with them, we had a local guy, Lance Dieckow from Peoria... the blond headed fellow playing a white banjo....a great player who unfortunately we have not been able to attract as a supporter of our club..... The dark haired guy in the b
ack row is Jimmy Barrett from Chicago area. Plays a wild tenor and is a "good player". And the tuba player is Lynn Shoemaker from Phoenix AZ.... a great musician who unfortunately had a stroke...and in the process lost his ability to hear music. A GREAT GUY...a terrific musician.... and on who
supported FIGA all over the country.
