It's preventative measures that began after US started threatening Iran. Nuclear arms are the same thing.
And in case you haven't realized, Iran's army isn't what it was during the Iran-Iraq war. In fact even back then the main reason for Iran's going on the offensive was a massive population of incredibly motivated soldiers.

Saudi Arabia is another threat, and I don't like Bush's relationship with them. Many Saudi citizens were involved in 9/11. A lot of funding of terrorist comes from individuals in SA. However the SA gov't has not been proven to supply the weapons.
As far as Iran, their military is about 500,000+. The Iraqi military is less than 200,000. They would have advantages with preparation, and technology. They would get help from some insurgents. Maybe I'm missing your point, where's the suicide.

If Iran was to invade or attack anyone, the resulting backlash from other countries would destroy them.
And to add to that, Iran doesn't have any interest in invading Iraq. The government can barely keep the population together, and is in no shape to invade anyone, let alone have to later deal with Iraq's population.

The Washington Post is kind of half and half. They used to be pretty far left, and now it has moved towards the right. They still have a little of each side.
However I know there are a lot of right wing papers. But there are a lot more papers that are far left, or liberal in nature. This might change in the future, since many left wing papers, like the NY Times, LA Times are struggling because of their bias (among other factors).

It is possible if you have responsible editors and reporters that just report the facts. There are plenty of smaller papers that other than the opinion section, can report fairly.
Even with some bias, newspapers/channels/radio stations can still remain fair, and allow the people to make up their mind.
