More than the speed or harmonic complexity of his playing, it is the rhythmical sophistication and originality which I find most challenging and most rewarding.

yeah this is dinner music, tatum played in resteraunts and stuff a lot. Actually is you watch the Ray Charles movie at one point they go to a resteraunt where tatum is playing. You only catch him briefly. The actor playing him did a great job.
Wonderful comment! ...( 2 months ago by Gorowitz)
Wonderful comment! Please more if you can! It is true that Art's playing transcends in a lot of ways. My opinion is that he often plays several parallell tunes or ideas, and then he "mixes" so one time we here one of them, the next second, another, like a collage...

Thanks. In keeping with the spirit of Art and his art {!} the jaunty imagery of two musicians on a stroll feels right and light to me.

I saw him at the Hollywood Bowl with Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson...just 2 weeks before he died. They jammed until almost 3 am...I had to leave at midnight..normally the Bowl shows ended at 10 PM..I can still remember them all on stage and Armstrong saying.."You cats wanna keep jammin?" and the crowd went crazy...Tatum...would do solos...I wish I had a video for a brain..I've got him on my list with Godowski, Petri, Sauer, Cziffra...
