I have to agree. The 50's Packards were the most comfortable and smooth ride I have ever had. The Packard was way ahead of its time. Many of the smaller manufacturors are responsible for the innovations found on today's cars. Thanks.

while being very technologically advanced, it is nothing compared to the Citroen DS introduced the same year.

The last real Packards were built in 1956. I don't count the 1957-58 Studebaker based cars as Packards. Remember, Studebaker sent Packard to its grave due to high overhead at its' South Bend plant. Nice car, nice video!!! Remember," Ask the man who owns one!"

As a proud Studebaker owner I feel obliged to tell you that the following is untrue: "Studebaker sent Packard to its grave" Both were struggling companies and neither had the capital to survive in an increasingly competitive market. Had Packard not merged with Studebaker the end result would have been the same.

The fact is, at their merger, Packard was in the black; Studebaker in the red But,the bigger problem was that James Nance wanted to merge S-P with AMC.Some Nashes and Hudsons may have used Packard V-8 engines and transmissions; but after George Mason's death; George Rommney wanted nothing to do with S-P. Maybe if it happened, you might be able to buy new Studebakers,Packards, and Nashes today.
The only American ...( 5 months ago by 34chuck8)
The only American car better than a 1955 Caribbean is a 1956 Caribbean. I once wrote the Rolls-Royce Club that in 1956 the finest sedan in the world was a Packard Patrician. They were not amused.

Just wondering, what would this car bring at auction today? I'm sure it is very valuable. It is a handsome auto to say the least.

!955-56 Packard Caribbean convertible trade for 80k-125k.buy the best one you can find; restorations are very expensive.A good compromise is the 1956 hardtop.total production,(500,276,the hardtop 263.) Caution, it is easy to make a 400 hardtop into a Caribbean, so be careful!!!!

It is such silent like a Rolls ! It was the most elegant Convertible you could have in the 50s. A car for people with old money. The new rich people had a Cadillac. I have this "missing feeling" with this wonderful noble trade mark like in Europe with Facel Vega or Borgward. The other big trade marks never filled really these special neeches of understatement noblesse which these elegant Packards, Facel Vegas etc.... had. It ´s a pitty that these companies disappeared....
Wunderbares Auto !!
