Thanks -- I would have liked to see the end nonetheless. I like how you focus on the weaknesses created by holes and the relative desirability of trades based on pawn structure.

You're welcome. Time permitting, I would have liked to cover the end as well. Unfortunately, youtube allows only 10 minutes per video. I appreciate the feedback! =)

Good job Jerry! I always wondered why people play the a6 (Narjdorf) against me. I see what they are afraid of now. It's nice to see a Master actually show a game they LOST instead of all their triumphs. But i think you only had less then 10 seconds left! Boris is always a good sport, win or lose.

Opps,,,I mixed posts. My first 2 sentences apply to the vid "Game Analysis (Grandmaster vs. Master)" game. Not this one. Figures i'd mess up on my first post!

Thank you. Yes, a6 is very much so a multi-purpose move. It prevents a piece going to b5 as well as supporting a queenside pawn expansion with b5. There's so much to learn from Boris both on and off the board. Great guy indeed! =)

hey, i'm not too familiar with professional chess, but since you seem to be a very good player i'd like to ask you a question: does the player who plays the black pieces have a disadvantage? if yes, how deciding is this disadvantage? i mean, on one hand he is 1 move behind his opponent, but on the other hand he can react to the white moves and doesn't tell too much of his strategy with his first move.
what's your opinion?

White has a slight advantage as a result of moving first. Statistics back this statement up. Good question! =)

After your regretted bishop trade putting you a pawn up, isn't the position still better for white?
Absolutely! However ... ( 2 months ago by ChessNetwork)
Absolutely! However concerning good/bad bishops, I think maintaining the bishops would have held an even better position for white.
Good question.
Thanks for the comment! =)

I still prefer BxB because you can then cover the d3 pawn with Rd4 can't you? I think it is much of a muchness. I like your explanations; very constructive for beginner to intermediate players.

Thanks. Games where ... ( 2 months ago by ChessNetwork)
Thanks. Games where one is better boardwise most commonly result in a WIN or DRAW at minimum. So to go from being better to losing was tough to take.
In summary, I ... ( 2 months ago by ChessNetwork)
In summary, I learned two things from this one game:
1.Manage my time better throughout the game(even the best of players make the most elementary of mistakes when low on time)
2.Take better stock in the relative value of a good bishop opposed to a bad bishop. (I could have reasoned that my bishop was worth 4 points and his was worth 3 points)
Losses?
They hurt, but learning from them heals a future game!
