Such an ambiguous ending. Definitely not happy, maybe a little sad and completely open to interpretation.
Imagine an ending like that these days: No, don't even envisage such a thought, all thoses poor idiot girls and hollywood producers of this generation who would be frightened and confused by such an uncertain and obscure finale.
I just hope Anna didn't retrogress; crying into her pillow, being anesthetized for the rest of her young life.

Thanks for posting this! I recorded it on my DVR recently and when I watched it today, it cut off when Gregory Peck's character said "I'm Joe Bradley." I wanted to see how it ended and thankfully someone (you) had posted it! Kind of a bittersweet ending. I would've liked to have seen them get together... maybe they do? As someone mentioned, it is a kind of ambiguous ending.
