This is an authentic Cuban Dalzon from her majesty Orquesta Aragon. They've kept up old traditions. New York and Colombiana salsa is great, it came-out during a blackout of traditional Cuban music to the world. The flute and violins comes from English and French traditions with Yoruba African drum rhythms, Spanish Gypsy rumba and the rest is history. Salsa is nothing more than an imitation, it created its own market in the 70's when Cuba was experimenting with other rhythms, like La Nueva Troba

Sorry. you don't really know what you are talking about.
Salsa was an international thing, with ROOTS in cuban music, but it went in another direction completely. Jazz,(like the arrangements of papo Lucca, and Jorge Millet) R&B (expressed in the smoother, non "ronco" style of singing and deeper harmonies) and avant garde modern music were all incorporated.

And Cubans, greater than you, (Celia Cruz) Mongo Santamaria, Alfredo De La Fe) all know that. Take your nationalist or racist views elsewhere.
This is typical rewriting of history. Very common to NON musicians that only love "traditional" Cuban music. I LOVE Puerto Rican music, and I am Cuban American. Do you play or sing, or just talk shit?
Salsa has its own ...( 6 months ago by rioquibu)
Salsa has its own history-great artists from Puerto Rico, New York, Cuban exiles. Rhythms from Colombia, Puerto Rican Bomba. The Dalzon is authentically Cuban, but " Son " is the root of Salsa it comes from Santiago de Cuba .When Dalzon appeared in early 20th century in Havana, the Son also appeared but considered too vulgar by the high society of the time-later they merged to form what you see here.

But no matter how Latino you are, one has to be Cuban to hear a hidden but well placed Manicero when played by Cubans like this one is and a puro melao que solo en tierra Cubana se da.

You are Right , there my friend.
there is nothing like a perfect danzon, or columbia for me. it's in my blood.
I am just tired of grown men and women acting like children and fighting, and of people denying what happened in New York.
I think people need to understand that YOU DO NOT OWN THE MUSIC! music belongs with everyone in the world.
any fighting about it's roots, or hybrids, is simply a discussion of nationalism, not music.
I play and sing, and make a living at it. peace!

So let's be paceful and enjoy the music, instead argueing each other

To my knowledge, Cuban music and Puerto Rican music have almost the same influences. It was named salsa during the 70's while it was becoming very popular in NY. Salsa is more know as a being a Puerto Rican Music because of Cuban political problems, but I think everything started in Cuba first (imagine las Vegas in a tropical island back in the 40's and 50's). In the present Puerto Rico is the country that has more salsa famous artist and also has one of the best dancing styles.

Cuba and Puerto Rico are the real roots of salsa. The other countries started after. NY was also an influence. I am Panamanian and I agree with this.
