An extremely deep dive into the mandelbrot zoom. If the final frame were the size of your screen, the full set would be larger than the known universe.

Yep, soon we've reached our limit it seems.. doubt there will be a bigger research project than the one taking place in CERN. Scientist will sooner or later have to accept the fact that there isn't a "smallest particle"

i never took acid, but i did see something interesting my first time hitting a ball of hash. a vast circle of symbols that apparently other stoners have seen that you can't really describe with words. i think it was a subconscious image.
it reminds me of this, because it occasionally in that state of mind, the symbols spiral infinitely out of space. this fractal art, also has no largest or smallest point, like that vision - a small taste of the infinite perhaps.
the universe is ...( 2 months ago by aytherix)
the universe is never the same size it was 2 seconds ago. the universe has been inconceivably small in the future/past (with expanding AND collapsing, which do you choose as the past lol).
if there are multiple universes, and given a little thought you probably would come to that idea eventually, what does that tell you about occupied space, emptiness, and expanse and collapse of all these universes in a larger multiverse of an infiniite size?
also, what is an object that contains all things?

Has anybody made a program to create a Madelbrot set? If so how do you create the smooth colour gradient I always see? (See Wikipedia User:Simpsons contributor for my VERY basic image made in Java)

look up fractals.
its a simple set of rules that define an image with infinite complexity and depth (so the scale limit is only as large as you can calculate to).. think of a perfect spiral. you can scale it up forever, and it will never come to an exact point at the center, but it will also continue to hold its shape, and follow its rule (spiraling toward the center)

It would have to be a non-object without taste, smell, color, size, shape, texture, sound, etc. It would be totally beyond concept and infinitely flexible. And precious.
It would be mind, wouldn ´t it?

The whole fascinating thing about it is that, no matter how deep you go, it all ends up in an exact replica of the image to start out with. This truly explains "self-similarity".

How to hand draw fractals was just discovered. If you go to fantastic fractals you can see a demonstration when you click on "How to make a fractal". Fractals arise from limits.

Why dont you calculate it? Shouldnt be very hard.
Anyway, the area that one screen covers is reduced wuicker than you think. Imagine the firs screen is the whole universe, then in maybe half a second you have only half the universe. And it goes on like that for three and a half minutes. Only faster that the example i used.

Good job,
Which computer did you use? How long did it take? About 20 years ago, I remember making an analogue computer to calculate the Mandelbrot set because it was so slow on a digital computer. I used op amps and analogue multipliers to make it display at about 20 fps and it waved around a bit like fire due to noise.
Good memories,
Thanks for the video.
