Chuck D may not have been the best rapper but as Hank Shocklee said, he is a poet. He is one of the most influential voices in Hip Hop. Just look at how many times his voice has been sampled over the past 20 years.
Yessir I believe ... ( 1 week ago by AllhailtheUS)
Yessir I believe that rap died in 1995 as well. "Soul Food" by Goodie M.O.B. and "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik" by Outkast in 1994 were probably the last albums that I consider "classic".. I really don't know what happened, but something died after that. Take me back to 88- EPMD, Public Enemy, BDP, Big Daddy Kane, Tribe Called Quest, Eric B. & Rakim... any of those over this bullshit they consider hip-hop nowadays. I am beginning to see a revival of people appreciating the old skool stuff..

Too lazy? Turn on ... ( 1 week ago by AllhailtheUS)
Too lazy? Turn on the radio today, and all you hear is fucking Lil Wayne and 50. The best rap in the 80's wasn't even played on the radio. It was through word of mouth, house parties and underground radio shows that people even figured out where true hip-hop was at. Granted, there might be a group here or there that still has a commitment to hip-hop, but back then it was based on lyrical skill and content instead of how many hoes you had in a video and what bentley you drive. Its not even close.
you are lazy. You ... ( 1 week ago by MUN7001)
you are lazy. You depend on the big companies for your music. Don't argue, you know exactly that they are rappers not played on tv, that are doing their thang. Back then it was based on skill, and it still is. Problem is, that people dont want to look, and trust me, I dont care if you know, cause your just sorry.
A 19 year-old ... ( 1 week ago by AllhailtheUS)
A 19 year-old trying to tell me about hip-hop? YOU'RE hilarious! I was listening to real music before you were even born. I have never depended on corporate to tell me what music to listen to. Hip-hop in the early 80's wasn't even on major labels. Artists like ChubbRock, JustIce,etc. never had a major label, but were some of the best ever laid down on wax. I have been around long enough to know the difference between hype and realism, so don't try to insult me thinking that I don't know anything
I knew you were ... ( 1 week ago by MUN7001)
I knew you were going to say that shit. If you are going to tell me, that's there no one today doing just what people did in the 80s, you are totally wrong, or idiotic.
Simple fact of the ... ( 1 week ago by AllhailtheUS)
Simple fact of the matter is that true hip-hop was more prevalent in the 80's, period. You didn't have "dig deep" as most artists were true to the style. There are a few examples in modern day music that stay true to the game, but the majority of rap music today focuses on bling, bitches and cars. The music of the 80s was focused on rhyme and skill, and the whole genre took a nosedive in the late 90s. Period. Call me an idiot, but I guarantee you that true music fans feel the same way that I do.
