kinda a trick ... ( 1 month ago by fancypants6434)
kinda a trick question lol ; it all depends on the player and what he/she takes to more. if you like jazz than there is no doubt you will choose a hard piece instead of a very rudimentary one but you may not do so with classical and vice versa. you should probably start out with a piece from any random book in a store. my first piece was winter waltz by catherine rollin and then i played jazz cat by her and it still remains to this day the one piece and barely have anything to complain about

my piano told me ... ( 1 month ago by dietangel)
my piano told me that 'grade 1' jazz is 'grade 3' classical. at the top end of the scale there are phenomenally difficult pieces written in both styles. i believe that your ability to play jazz is linked to your personality. If you like to experiment and be creative then you will be good at jazz. peace and love
i thought a G6 ... ( 4 weeks ago by wizardfingers)
i thought a G6 chord had to have a D in it.. otherwise its just e minor first inversion
Jazz chords usually ... ( 3 weeks ago by UrmelaufEis)
Jazz chords usually don't require a 5th. But since I think there's no point in having a note twice in a voicing I would rather play the D in the rigth hand instead of another E. (Didn't really watch the rest - don't know if I'd agree with it^^) Anyway: Even with a D a G6 is a Em7 inversion. The root makes the difference here. And yeah, jazz chords are not always easy to understand^^ These ones are quite simple, though.
well a chord ... ( 3 weeks ago by wizardfingers)
well a chord usually sounds pretty crap without a 5th like...
