I have to disagree ... ( 7 months ago by sciencectn)
I have to disagree with you there. You understand and enjoy a play if you have an open mind and want to understand it. There's nothing that excludes kids from watching it. I'm sure there are plenty of adults who don't see the value in a play like this. Therefore, it really depends on the person, not one's age.

Though this is rather late, I feel I must give my own word into a certain quote of yours
"You have to be an adult" in reference to any teenager(young adult) being able to understand it.
I'm sorry to say, but I am no adult. Yet I find the meaning of the play rather easy. Though, I admit, many hardly understand it. However, I cannot let a quote, as patrionizing at this, left unguarded. If someone had spoken first on the matter, I give them kudos. And know I was not bashing. Thank
you

I'm 16, and I find Julius Ceasar to be a wonderful piece of literature. I really enjoyed reading this in my English class. I'm quite sure I fully understood the meaning of the story also, despite the fact that most of the class didn't. So, I figure, if you pay attention, open up a bit and listen, most anyone can understand it. It's just that it's quite different from modern language, that many people don't TRY to understand. They just complain.
I love most of Shakespear's work, actually :3

I'm 15 and my English class is reading The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. I feel compelled to say, in response to earlier comments, that I understand this play very well. It is also a terribly interesting play in itself. So before you stereotype...think. Thank you.

It is interesting that all those commenting are students of English! I know this play vaguely but i've read Antony & cleopatra and today when i was also a student and today i will start shooting a 3 min movie inspired from this play. It is about 2female friends Alexandra and Breta(after Alexander and Brutus)one of them will kill the other.

OK, but he needs ... ( 2 months ago by hlmencken33)
OK, but he needs more irony in the finale. It's also missing a bit. "You are not wood, you are not stones, but men..." and later "Oh now you weep. THESE ARE GRACIOUS DROPS." But most glaring: "I am but a plain blunt man that loves my friend -- and that they know full well who gave me public leave to speak of him. For I have neither wit nor words, nor worth, action or utterance, or the power of speech to stir men's blood.... " Then it's missing the reading of the will. Just my $0.02.

the idea behind ... ( 1 month ago by NinaL8z)
the idea behind this example of oratory is how words can bring about emotion, and how a very precise use of tone and delivery can incite very specific reactions..notice how his tone changes each time he says "honorable man" so that by the last time he says it, it means just the opposite! Mark Antony knows that Brutus had a hand in Caesar's death and is trying to turn the crowd in his own favor. Shakespeare was a genius. You all should listen to other speeches to see how language truly works.
