The legend says that the bass riff of this song was composed and played for record by thom. Could be a reason?
Colin is one of my faves anyway

I have been lucky to see Radiohead twice and this is the best live song I have ever heard in my life. When the revolution comes, this song will accompany the footage of the revolution. The revolution will be televised. Hasta la victoria siempre!

"Like a brass band marching into a brick wall"
Brilliant stuff. I have said it again and again, but this song is their best work. They rocked with OK Computer and those other early albums, but KID-A is their most artistic achievement, and The National Anthem is the song that is their magnum opus.
Absolute chaos and dissonance.

What I really love ...( 3 days ago by rockon6191)
What I really love about this song in addition to many other radiohead songs is that to really appreciate it you need a true understanding of music, not simply rock. Many people that claim to know a lot about music show their ignorance when they attempt to comment validly on radiohead, saying things like "trumpets have no place in this song" and "what's with the grunting?" If they understood the concepts of dissonance and ambience they wouldn't be asking.

Pretty much yes. It's really funny because the TV says "avec un coup de pied dans le cul" which means litterally "with a kick in the ass"

I agree with you. I say this without any modesty or ego - I can't objectively say I 'understand' music, though though I agree Radiohead is amongst creatively gutsiest bands, not just rock bands. Any way how exactly does one define rock music? They are a genre bending band and qualify as a rock band based on their 1st 3 albums. Also, as they have progressed from Kid A to Rainbows they are going back towards harmony (leaving dissonance and chaos behind them) or so it seems.
