No, a cat kills because of instinct. Cats are not socialized. We have instincts too, but are socialized. We have institutions, like "murder" and "assassination". A cat doesn't "murder" a rabbit, because a cat cannot represent itself the idea of murder, or death, or future, or good or bad, etc.

None of that changes the fact that cats, dogs, whatevers, kill for reasons other than survival. Just because we should know better, doesn't mean we can overcome our instincts anymore than any other animal. Otherwise we would stop breeding.

Oh, yeah, you're right. I once watched a bobcat kill a rattlesnake and then leave like it was no big deal. The snake was not a threat to the cat and the cat wasn't interested in eating it. They simply wound up at the same spot. The cat could've easily just walked away but instead wiped it out, rather easily, I might add.

His comment about hunting for pleasure was really ridiculous within the context of caring about life and how humans act. It was asinine. Hunters kill animals that can freely run around, while most people get meat from factory farms where animals are abused and never see the light of day. Is he criticizing that? Of course not! Note how he complains about people making money while that is exactly what he is doing; taking 70 bucks a show to spew pointless anger. He complains, I work. Ha!

okay well... Carling is not whining, his anger and negativity is apart of his comedy skit, it sets him apart from a preacher; he has to be somewhat funny to be a comedian. He is just spreading the idea of rational thinking fused with his "sadistic" comedy acts.
But i do agree with you that in the end, there is nothing you can do about it, grow up, work, fuck, die. But at least he is spreading awareness.

I give him credit for that. And he is funny. Humor is a good way to make people aware of things that are happening. I used to sound just like Carlin and I decided to take a slightly different path. I am not insecure in my individuality hence I have learned to value this country more than ever before. I am part of something greater than myself and while I encourage people to complain, like Carlin, it strikes me as ungracious and somewhat hypocritical. But he is doing his part. Thanks.

We need an education yes but, if you look hard enough you can see education is not the anwser to the REAL problems. Education UNLOCKS doors not opens them. Education is not LOVE sure all you be able to do is have more in life and that's all.

tell us wise one, how does the world really work? i don't think carlin needs a handout from you so why don't you explain how the world works, how global warming is a myth, how the war in iraq is good for us at a bargain price of $3 trillion, how 'free trade agreements' benefit all of us, why corporate media is a reliable source of information and so on.

Too complex to describe in this short space, but I can tell you that I don't think global warming is a myth. The same people who complain about us using oil are the same complaining about us being in Iraq, because of our interest in oil and the region. We can't drill here, but we can't look out for our interests there. As I said, hypocrisy. As for media, our media is garbage, whether it's FOX or CNN. Pure garbage.
