You pretty much always need a backing band behind the lead guitar when you get to the solo. Kind of cool that Beck had Clapton playing as his backing guitarist for that part! :-)

I think its one of those things where it sounded a lot better there and then than it does in retrospect. Even clapton and beck's guitars sound sickly, although this is certainly not jimmy's best performances.

This film is from 1983..It's not surprising if he was on something..if you read the biography of led, jimmy got hooked on heroin starting mid 70s, with lots of highs and lows during his addiction. You can see at some point in the video, he's drooling while playing,and saliva drops in the guitar..He cleaned up in the late 80s, early 90s...However, this doesnt take away any of his greatness..he owns the stage and he will always be the most influencial guitar player... still alive..Cheers
