Who said we "need" better resolution? Who says we "need" television at all? You don't need anything more than a bush with berries, some wild anilmals, and a spear to throw at them.

Funny you said that. I was about to mention the same. It's sad that this has become defend Germany week. I was merely pointing out that Japan doesn't have a monopoly on all things technical. And I love, Japan. Germany has very high-end Hi-Fi industry in general.
One of the most interesting Japanese High-Fi outfits has been Nakamichi. But it's not like they're producing better equipment than Bang & Olufsen. And America's M&K or (especially) B&W beats ANYTHING out of Japan, audiowise.
