A snippet from a 4-DVD series on the history of the pipe organ. (See e.g. YesAsia at http://tinyurl.com/socu2 or search eBay.) For some mysterious reason this excellent documentary set featuring world-famous organists like Gustav Leonhardt and Marie-Claire Alain is available only in China (go figure).
In this short excerpt Bernard Foccroulle demonstrates the three basic organ ranks: the principals, the flues, and the reeds. The organ shown is in Norden, Germany, and was built in 1688 by Arp Schnitger. It was restored in 1985 by Jürgen Ahrend.

Recoding made of ... ( 1 year ago by octave4)
Recoding made of Middle C of real pipe. Use of electronics to multiply or divide frequency to make 61 notes played through speakers plced in or near the real organ. Only the cheapest of builders use this synthetic gadget in a real organ. Rogers, Allen, Ahlborn and others are all Digital stops.

Theater Organs were made to accompany silent movies and almost all theaters had one by Wurlitzer. With movie sound tracks organs fell out of favor and were neglected until they were ripped out and sold or scrapped. Many survive in private locations. A few of these SPECIAL organs remain in theaters.

Unfortunately, very few. Nobody makes theater organs anymore, so the ones that remain are increasingly rare, and to find them in theaters is quite unusual, especially since most of the old movie houses have closed down in favor of the new multiplex theaters.

That was secondary effect. Initial cause of ruin of many of them was advent of sound tracks in movies, lack of T.O. performers & they sat idle taking space. "Management decided to toss them out. Very few remain in original locations. Some have been "Re-installed" those reamining intact are in private hands. Some even moved into church were they are used but are unsuitable because they are loud and course.

I think someone hit the spam by accident. No matter. You can easily open it. This guy has inetersting demo of "Principals" and Flutes" bu typically ignores Strngs and Reeds (Other than Dulzian - A member of the current "Clarinet" family. This is a real tracker organ, No combo action, & mechanical couplers. Peobably a bear to ply but has a noce tone to it.

It is a recoding of a pipe organ by means od digital tecnology. The 1 note is then electronically divided and multiplied to get 32 Pedal notes and 61 Manual notes. It is entirely electronic, there is no wind and no real pipes.

Notice the lack of "chiff" in the speech of the pipes in this organ? Quite different from the "neo-baroque" organs of the 20th century, which were not as "authentic" as they were claimed to be.
