I'm still using the same set of strings I bought with my gtr in 1975 - Every time they start to sound 'dull' I do this:
First, I remove them from my Gibson Kalamazoo - all 4 of 'em, then I take a piece of very course grade glasspaper/sandpaper (about P30 will do it), then I rub those fuckers til that rust falls away.
Next - and this is so important - I put all the strings into a pot of boiling pee for about 30 mins, then I dip my head into the pot. Never fails. You'll never buy strings again.

Cool video thanks for sharing very informative.I have several guitars so I replace the strings on the Martin with new ones. Then I take the old strings from the martin and restring the yamaha. I do not throw away string because I fix up cheap guitars, add inlays and create artwork on them.These are fun to play at art shows because it calls attention to my booth and it seems like my paintings sell quicker.

Here's an important tip: DO NOT buy Roberts gtr strings from Ebay. I ordered 5 x sets of 9guage and I got 3 x 9 and 2 x 10. Also, one of the 1st 'E's broke during the first gig (I'm not a heavy-handed 'hammer-thrower') and another 'broke' whilst I was putting a new set on - the winding on the bauble-end completely unravelled. It's true - you get what you pay for. These guys ALWAYS seem to have the final word on their feedback sites. Buyer beware.
