that's actually the term for them, they're called sports car prototypes to be specific to the Porsche in the accident, but all cars that race in ALMS and the FIA GT series actually are called sports cars. Kinda dumb, I know, but that's the way it is.

i was at this race. the petit le mans @ road atlanta (10 hrs). i was at the top of the hill looking down the esses so i heard it behind me and then saw it on the jumbo-tron. beautiful track & race. lots of elevation change.

Just like the Mercedes CLR crash, you get caught in a slipstream on a hill, and you don't get any dpwnforce, the SWOOSH!
