Don't let me be misunderstood. I love their music. Still, it was a bit overproduced most of the time simple cause they wanted the funk crowd to have it all. I guess every channel on their mixtable must have been pumped full with instruments. Best albums "Three Miles High" and "In The Purest Form"

My funk band opened for this band in 1981 at a small club in West Monroe,Louisiana called the "Love Boat". I'll never forget because their drummer stole my electronic drum. We both had "syndrums", which made that "clap" sound. Mine was new, his was old and beat up. He pulled the ol' switcheroo on me backstage.

I am the same way.I don't listen to much new stuff.I tune in every once in awhile to see what's new or what's goin' on in black music or black radio but that's it. I just turn my xm to all the ol'school rap and r&b channels,and sometimes some hardrock stations.Oh yes, this brother right here loves him some hardrock and a little metal too.

Back then it was about playing the instruments and really learning the craft, Prince put it best when he said that it's just a bunch of "computer programmers" in the studio makin' music today. I totally agree. Rap music today has become an embarrassment and these young black folks are too silly to even recognize that, they actually think it's cool. I've been a drummer for 20 years and i know REAL music believe me. Music used to be about talent and passion, now give any young thug a mic and a beat and they can make millions.

Y'all both are on the money!! Rap is the biggest joke in music today! But what bothers me the most is that WOMEN support that garbage when all it does is degrade them. There are a handfull of rappers that get it like Common and Kanye West, but the majority of that junk is a disgrace! I play in a band too (guitar and keyboards) and it's all about creating good music, not degrading women and showing bling and booty. Rap is a disgrace!
