That 'Lyle the Intern' gag would have went down a storm maybe ten years ago on the NBC Letterman but the CBS Letterman show of today is -- although still irreverent -- too polished for a seedy, grungy guy like Lyle for it to work.
You just don't want to see Dave get trashed nowadays hence the uncomfortable, awkward viewing and tumbleweed reaction from the audience.

Ya know, back around 1999-2000 when the Soprano's were all the rage, Lauer was so excited about having one of the guests from that show on the set that he dropped the name BIG PUSSY and you could see the rest of members at the desk glaze over at the awkward moment. people like david should realize that the very idea of The Vagina Monologues, especially the piece delivered by jane fonda, was to reclaim its essence for women, not to simply give out "bad" words. instead of making fun, he should be helping that cause - he's married, for goodness' sake! unless he looks as his wife as nothing more than a hole, instead of someone who can't be belittled by words he thinks should be made fun of, simply because they, for him, are distasteful.
