Ill say it like this Im an actress in Los Angeles and I was P O when I found out that they where doing a movie about Toussaint not only cause I went to Toussaint L'ouverture for grade school in Miami also because Im haitian how come you take a story that is not your and make it to what you want it to be.

2)I remember when Danny Glover was going to Haiti. I knew he was there tying to make money off the history, not to experience the island for what it really has to offer. But you know I cant really hate on Him. We as Haitians need to stand up and make our own country better. I'm happy that they are acknowledging 1804 but it makes me upset when you think about the cast that they are putting on the movie. As of yet no Haitian actors or actress come on now keep it real.

3)What makes Haiti great is everything about our people. Although a lot of Haitian say creole is spoken by the uneducated creole is the language of the Haitian people and there is no way in gods green earth that we should change that. Now that was for your righteous mind. Keep it real or keep it moving. I wouldn't even film a movie in Haiti until everything calm down and until my family tells me that it safe to visit.

U know what? i was excited when i heard the project too, but a little miffed at the cast. But then, this movie is probably gonna get a limited release; they'll at least get some ching with don cheadle. i don't know how many of our people we've got in the acting game, but i do know talent is hard to come by. And to be totally honest, I don't know many Haitian actors/actresses in Hollywood who are REALLY talented, oscar worthy.

Oscar Worthy isnt the question. Making a great movie with the right cast is what they need to do. The passion behind the movie will make oscar worthy. Haitians are very passionate people I know we can do a great job. We have a whole lot of Haitians in the business actor, actress,B ball player and football player,Directors, Producers that I know will do a great job. Over 2000 plus in the business enough to pick from. Shit my close Haitian Friend has been on a few great TV shows she just isnt big.

i feel ya.. ppl like to judge and critisize things and ppl cuz they tend to be close minded to the situations.. im from the seychelles islands, we speak Kreol too.. they may say we uneducated too, but, truth is, no matter what, we are all from africa, and as africans we are strong, we should unite more instead of fighting with each other, together we can make a difference in this crazy world. its soo hard in this world to be "coloured" or different from the "whites".

My favorite book about Toussaint is This Gilded African I recommend this highly. There are other good books and source material but I think this is the best. I hope they make the film close to this book. I love Toussaint if it weren't for him I would not be here; he was the one who started the end of slavery an unbelievable character, such determination, intelligence and bravery. A true hero!!

All my dreams are coming true I wanted them to make a film about him and Che Guevara and now they are both nearly here. All we need now is a modern tale about Hannibal of Carthage. They are even making a movie about Bob Marley, although I have dreamed for a drama series as I think this would suit his story better. Seems like all my dreams are coming into being though.

The thing with American movie's is that they often screw around the historical facts of other countries (Braveheart, Genghis Khan - starring John Wayne??!!) but the films based on their own history are usually good and accurate (Glory, Gettysburg etc).
It would be nice for a Black director to care enough to do all he can to give this movie an authentic feel such as using at least some Haitian actors and hopefully not a totally American cast (I say this as a non Haitian).
Though time will tell.
