I agree with you. I find it disturbing that Humbert is condoned by people just because he doesn't fall into the paedophile stereotype.
If someone have ...( 1 month ago by spioncina)
If someone have read the book, Lolita has power on Humbert, he's slave of his same instincts!
For Humbert, that is an adult, this is love.
For Lolita, that is alone in the world after mum's death, this became the solution to her trouble.
In final scene, when Humbert ask her who take her away from him, you can understand in the words of Lolita
"I love him much than all the others..."
All the others: a young girls with much experience on sex.
Humbert say "I haven't neither been the first..."

i haven't read the book but i can understand that lolita was not a simple abused little girl.she knows perfectly how use her seduction:she played with humbert's instincts.anyway in the movie she was attracted by quilty who wasn't really a saint,he was a monster, but humbert loved her and that's why he suffered when she rejects his proposal to stay with him forever

Sorry, I'm italian and don't speak english very well...

people are all like "he was just misled!"
but if you read the book, the whole point is that his narrative can and should be questioned! lolita might have been nothing but a victim

i agree. but this version is more accurate to the book than the 62 version and the censorship at that time did restrict kubrick when making the film.
but remakes are generally rubbish; the wickerman with nicolas cage compare to the one with christopher lee is a classic example

I think that ...( 1 day ago by omgfreakay)
I think that Spioncina means that Humbert saw Lolita as an adult because she was a lot of experience when it came to sex. She, on the other hand, never loved him and was only with him out of loneliness and beacuse she realised that power she had over him.
Also, she says that she was crazy about Quilty because she was actually attracted to him, and not to Humbert. You can tell at the end of the movie, that she hates Humbert because she says things that truly hurt him. that what i understood!
If I understand ...( 1 day ago by omgfreakay)
If I understand what you're saying, it was set through the bad person's POV so we can feel sympathetic towards him and in a way, forive him for what he did.
I guess if that is what the author wanted out of this style of writing, he achieved very well, because during the movie, I couldn't help but feel sad for Humbert when Lolita refused to run away with him.
But, in my opinion, I think that the author did that so he can make us realise that we are truly ...

hypocrites. He's sort of saying "Just because you're in the head of the Bad Person, that doesn't justify what he did! He took advantage of a young girl who had nowhere to go after her mother's death, and that is unforgivable"
And I don't think someone can misunderstand a novel's message. IMO, there is no set interpretation of a story, it's up to everyone to see what the story means to them.

it's ACTING, not child pornography.
When will the US get that stick out of their asses.
I believe that ...( 1 day ago by omgfreakay)
I believe that although we are sympathetic towards Humbert, he is a pedophile. Just because he's not the stereotypical ones we see on TV, doesn't change the fact that he had sex with a minor. I wouldn't call it "rape" because Lolita was fully aware of what was going on, but he is a pedophile, whatever his motives were.
LOL. :D
