The fact that Musharraf proved more destablizing for Pakistan than any politician should answer you pleas for dictatorship. No matter how you spin it, Mush brought instability, terrorism and the worst possible reputation to Pakistan. Joining the US is a non brainer- any of our politicians would have done the same as they continue to do. The leader needs to produce results for a country, whether a democratic leader does that, or a non-elected one, is irrelevant. The important thing to remember FeatherBrain is that nations are built on institutions and a constitution. If we allow 2 or 3 cycles of bad democracy to evolve, it will give way to stability and a stable system of governance. There are many countries with comparable literacy rates which have suceeded in democracy because the army doesn't interfere. Imgine what the Quaid, a consitutional lawyer would say about a dictator like Mush. I believe you should reread Jinnah's words for Pak governance.

Musharraf wasnt a 'dictator', techincally speaking. Also, I believe Pakistan had more freedom during his tenure, esp in terms of the media. Somthing no democracy could do. The only prob with Musharraf was 'symbolic' i.e he wasnt elected, and that he was in uniform. . . also cz he screwed up in the last yr or so.

I suppose childish worship of human beings as saviours or heros only shows that many in our society are lacking in education. We need to focus on building instituions so that leaders and parties don't matter. Governments come and go but a stable system of governance should be the goal of patriotic Pakistanis. What advancements do you speak of under dictatorship. Most of the economic stats have been proved to be fudged numbers. Try to read impartial international think tanks and see the reality.
