The Mailman does not deliver on Sunday.
But Michael Jordan delivers all the time. After the 1997 MVP, Karl Malone, missed two late free throws that would have given the Jazz the lead, Michael Jordan calmly nailed a jumper as time expired to give the Bulls a 84-82 win in game one of the 1997 Finals. Jordan hit 13 of 27 shots to finish
with 31 points. Scottie Pippen had a solid game, adding 27 points. For Utah, Malone finished with 23 and John Stockton added 16. The Bulls took a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

i usually think every MVP winner is deserved, but MJ clearly got robbed that year. he led the league in scoring & led his team to a league best 69-13 record(almost was 70). i think the voters got tired of voting for MJ all the time. i'm glad he played karl malone in the finals & showed who the real MVP was.
great video, MJ ... ( 3 months ago by R34ISdabest)
great video, MJ simply the greatest. somewhere out there phil is probably wishing he was still coaching jordan ever since his second final loss :P gosh i miss the nba of the 90's. greatest era ever.

I look at this game and of course see Jordan but Pippen... what a player he was too, he did it all for the team.
Same thing was true ... ( 2 months ago by TBlake34)
Same thing was true of 1993, although Barkley did have a great year.
barkley's MVP i was ... ( 2 months ago by isaiahb2000)
barkley's MVP i was cool with. he had a great all-around stat year(25.6ppg(52fg%),12.2rpg,5.1apg) plus he led the Suns to the best record (62-20)
If I recall Hakeem ... ( 2 months ago by TBlake34)
If I recall Hakeem had an amazing year as well. I agree that it's fine Barkley won the MVP, it's just that knowing what we know now, it's clear who the dominant player was. Everything's easier in retrospect.
Malone, however...Jordan had basically the exact same stats in 97 he had in 96, and his team won 69 games. In addition, there were long stretches of that year where Pippen and others were injured. I agree with you, it made no sense.
in these recent MVP ... ( 2 months ago by isaiahb2000)
in these recent MVP votings, team records have alot of sway now. sometimes that's unfair. hakeem had a better stat line than barkley, but the record put him over the top. also MJ had a great stat line & had a better record than the rockets(see, unfair sometimes) p.s. MJ was clearly the dominant player & it's easier to say that in hindsight, but the MVP is a yearly award after all, not a lifetime achievement award(plus MJ got the more important finals MVP)

The Mailman was denied a chance to win the game.
Russell needed to ... ( 2 months ago by dwilliams02)
Russell needed to work harder on his ball denial on the last possession. 7.5 seconds isn't that long, Chicago wasn't setting any screens for Jordan either, they just expected him to pop out and get it, if Russell had come out and denied the ball on the initial pass the Bulls probably would have either panicked or at worst had to go to Pippen.

Think they didn't want no. 23 to go to the line as well - He does have a way of getting ppl to foul him?
Bryan Russell sucks ... ( 2 months ago by Xandrino)
Bryan Russell sucks! And Karl Malone the "MVP" can't handle the pressure and misses 2 free throws...and the REAL MVP wins the game!!!
Michael lost many ... ( 1 month ago by PAZ0619)
Michael lost many regular season MVPs because he was too dominating, and people were simply too tired of voting the same guy for >2 years in roll. Whenever the media saw a great team in that season, the media voted for the best player on that team, such as Chuck, Malone, and Magic, and ignoring the team records occasionally. But of course, it was clear who was the alpha dog in the finals.
Bryon Russell ... ( 1 month ago by PAZ0619)
Bryon Russell always seemed to overcommit himself on defense, something that MJ managed to take advantage of in the Game 6 of '98 Finals. Jordan had his hand on Bryon's hip, but Bryon would not have slipped if he was not over-aggressive. MJ did not shove Russell off--he just gave Russell a bit of extra momentum, as he slipped well after Michael Jordan stopped.
see, that's makes ... ( 1 month ago by isaiahb2000)
see, that's makes no logical sense that he was too dominating. that to me is just unfair & bais
But MVP award is ... ( 1 month ago by PAZ0619)
But MVP award is not really a MVP award. In a way it is somewhat a life time achievement award. Although I have no problem with Kobe winning it this year, I really think he should win in 2006, consider his team was atrocious and Kobe was putting up great numbers despite of it, before he decided to tank in Game 7 in Phoenix.
Michael Jordan was ... ( 1 month ago by PAZ0619)
Michael Jordan was the MVP from 87-98 in my mind. He had achieved everything that a guard could have achieved in the game. Too bad it was not the case.
Yeah I know, but ... ( 1 month ago by PAZ0619)
Yeah I know, but that seemed to be the justification for the media. The writers and coaches who voted were probably "damn are we going vote for Jordan again? BOring...."
Actually, as we all know, Jordan was not exactly the darling of the media.

"The mailman doesn't deliver on Sunday's"-Scottie right b4 the 2 missed free throws

jordan says @ 10.18 ... ( 1 month ago by wiredshock)
jordan says @ 10.18:
"i missed a free throw, karl comes down and missed 2 free throws, i mean, mvp's in too much down the stretch" jordan punished every opposing player who won the mvp against him that year. first in '93 against barkley and the suns then in '97 against malone and the jazz. absolute greatness. btw,
nice collection of vids!
micheal jordan is ... ( 1 month ago by imrealboutmine)
micheal jordan is amazing. sometimes i look at kobe and talent for talent i think their equal, but the heart to win i think jordan can turn into satan if he wanted to to win. he has the most deadly killer instinct of all time and thats what made him better than everyone else.

kobe is good but not better than mj.i mean look how kobe played in the finals...he sucked dick( no offense).

if everybody had the heart and will to win as Michael Jordan these days(and no game-altering refs) every televised NBA game would have more ratings than the superbowl...
