I was just getting into him when he passed and was bummed that I didn't get to meet him or see him as our President. Every now and again I go visit his gravesite and it helps me to put things in perspective...I don't know why. I always leave him a couple cigarettes.

There's a lot of famous people buried there and it's a cool, peaceful cemetary...not a tourist trap like Hollywood Forever. This place is also hidden away and hard to find. You can drive right past the driveway that leads to it for years and never know it's there...It's like finding The Batcave. I know Marilyn Monroe's crypt is there as well as Hugh Hefner's future resting place (under Marilyn), but can't remember most others. But there's LOTS!

Actually, there's probably nothing there. He's in Heaven or something, cause he was too awesome for earth, and it's unmarked cause it's empty... no coffin or nothing.

As much as i love Frank Zappa's music and respect his boundless energy and intelligence, I'm not convinced by his statement that he didn't want to be remembered. One of the greatest things about him was his wilful perverseness - the feeling that you could never really know whether or not to take anything he said seriously. There's no getting around the fact that Zappa was a (deservedly) arrogant man in some respects - and if he cared about his music, why would he not care if it was remembered?

Well said. He must have wanted to effect people or he would never have released any of his music. He would have just sat in the corner and entertained himself. Being remembered is not a bad thing. I think you're right about the never knowing whether or not to take him seriously.

I had the pleasure of browsing a lot of Zappa's sheet music when I lived in NYC, in bookstores and libraries. I was a classical musician who studied composition. Looking at his sheet music, it was easy to tell that dude KNEW what he was doing, and it was TOUGH TO PLAY. He didn't write drivel like ACDC or ABBA. He wrote DIFFICULT CLASSICAL MUSIC. SusanSummers (or whatever her/his name is) can think what s/he wants (if s/he can), but the facts are otherwise.
