This is Jerry Seinfeld's appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson on May 30, 1990, the night before his landmark t.v. show, "The Seinfeld Chronicles" debuted. Classic Seinfeld routines about stealing car radios, criminals, and the newspaper. Includes the "drycleaner" clip from the Seinfeld show. Johnny is as great as ever...

Let's see here....73 million viewers during its finale (Friends only had 50 million). Seinfeld went OUT as the #1 TV show on television, so Jerry really did go out on top. Look how many famous people were on Seinfeld...Teri Hatcher, Larry David, Courteney Cox, Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jerry Stiller, etc.

Cheers was okay for a while until fat Kirstie Allie came on and ruined the show. Plus, even as George Costanza said in Season 4's "The Trip" to George Wendt, they sat in a damn bar every episode! I mean...it gets old after a long time. Isn't it funny how Seinfeld took Cheers' time slot when they called it quits and it became the best show on TV a year later.
EVERYBODY knows ... ( 1 week ago by nickmordo)
EVERYBODY knows Seinfeld, no matter who you are. The best cast of 4 characters ever assembled. The most true-to-life sitcom ever...things discussed on the show were lifelike and realistic (not finding a car in a parking garage, placement of buttons on a shirt, etc). I could go on for days. Seinfeld is and always will be #1. Do not give me outdated sitcoms in black and white. It has no bearance in the new millenium.
Blah, blah, blah. ... ( 1 week ago by rachelazw)
Blah, blah, blah. You and led777 offer nothing but personal opinions and no facts. SEINFELD was a very popular show, but not the most popular sitcom ever. Not as popular as LUCY, COSBY, ALL IN THE FAMILY. And nowhere near as good as those shows or CHEERS, MTM, FRASIER, GG. LUCY has been around for six decades and still very popular after all these years, even though it is old and in black and white. I will bet nobody will be watching SEINFELD 60 years from now.

Rachelazw is soooo right! Lucy is forever! Seinfeld just totally stinks! The "real" real-to-life comedy is and always will be "I Love Lucy"! And if you have a problem with that well pull your lip over your head and swallow! LUCY! LUCY! LUCY!!!!!
~No offense to the owner of this video~

I know! Well, they show I love lucy more than The Sienfield Show!I Love Lucy will probably still be playing in 2050!!!! I Love Lucy RULES Sienfield DRULES!!! I Love Lucy is the best show EVER!!!

Well Sienfield wasnt as popular as Black and White show like I love Lucy, and probably wont be playing in the future.Thank God. Hope you change your mind!TV SUCKS these days, movies back then where better.
I have to disagree ... ( 1 week ago by 4EverDarling)
I have to disagree with nickmordo and led777zeppelin. I have never liked Seinfeld. It has no story! Plus it's about NOTHING! I Love Lucy has been on the air for 57 long years! And will probably never go off the air! Seinfeld was lucky enough to get a decade. I Love Lucy has believable characters, people and stories. There's not a show that could ever top I Love Lucy!
It's pulling stuff ... ( 1 week ago by Beejjjjjj)
It's pulling stuff out of your butt because you're obviously making up these arguments as you go along. You act like "I Love Lucy" was the only sitcom on in the '50s. I just gave you examples of two '50s sitcoms that were in the same mold as "I Love Lucy" One of them was never a huge hit, the other was an all-out failure. There were many sitcoms in the '50s and, like today, most failed. So to say people were watching Lucy in droves only because they were starving for a sitcom is stupid.
First of all, ... ( 1 week ago by Beejjjjjj)
First of all, Kirstie Alley wasn't fat on Cheers. Second, it became the #1 show AFTER she joined the cast. Third, it ran an amazing 11 seasons and broke records for Emmy wins. And speaking of Emmys, here are the actors who won the most as lead actor in a series: Don Adams, Barbara Bain, Lucille Ball, Candice Bergen, Dick Van Dyke, Michael J. Fox, Dennis Franz, James Gandolfini, Helen Hunt, John Lithgow, Mary Tyler Moore, Carroll O'Connor and Robert Young. I don't see Jerry Seinfeld on that list!

Read a magazine today, turn on the tv, ask normal citizens...anyone will tell you seinfeld reigns supreme. I mean....everyone knows it. And they won Emmys too. But who gives a shit about Emmys...they give Emmys to shit shows like Will and Grace. But you probably like that too...
I Love Lucy will ... ( 1 week ago by nickmordo)
I Love Lucy will look ancient by 2030. People will be using those old videos for starting fires. And Cosby? HAHA. Hmm Jane Leeves on Frasier started on...SEINFELD! Blah you are all pathetic.
If I LOVE LUCY has ... ( 1 week ago by rachelazw)
If I LOVE LUCY has lasted this long, it ain't going away, moron. I remember when Laverne & Shirley went into syndication in the early '80s. It was on *everywhere* and broke all records for what stations were willing to pay to air it. Same thing with THREE'S COMPANY and other shows. Today, I LOVE LUCY is seen by more people than those shows. It endures. It will never go away. Pretty amazing for an "ancient" black and white show.

Yeah, you're right, WILL AND GRACE, is way better than SEINFELD.

I couldn't agree more! Will and Grace is way better! Actually now that I think of it...any other show is better than Seinfeld!

It's official: Rachel is a dumbass. Ah well, she is probably a real-life Lucy. "Wahhhhhhh I'm a dumbass, wahhh I'm a grown woman crying."
And Will and Grace is cool...if you're gay.

As the owner of this video, I just have to respond that I LOVE everyone's comments... The debate is great! Everyone has an opinion on the greatest show ever... It's difficult for me to compare I Love Lucy with Seinfeld because they are totally different comedies - "family" sitcom versus "buddy" sitcom; both stellar and pioneering in their genres and their time... Both excellent shows in my opinion! Keep the comments coming!

Thanks for your comment billyblaze67. I have to agree with what you're saying. These are very different shows with their own merits. Each has their fan base and it's a matter of personal preference. For me, obviously I'm a huge Lucy fan. And as I've stated, there are many other shows I also love and would rather watch than SEINFELD: Cheers, Honeymooners, All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore, Will & Grace, Beaver, Beverly Hillbillies, to name just a few. Others feel differently. To each his own.
Yeah, 4EverDarling, ... ( 1 week ago by rachelazw)
Yeah, 4EverDarling, I have a VERY long list of shows I'd rather watch than SEINFELD. I've tried to watch SEINFELD, including some of the so-called classic episodes, but it's just not my cup of tea. Among 1990s sitcoms, I enjoy WILL & GRACE and EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND a lot. I like WINGS, MURPHY BROWN, and MAD ABOUT YOU, too. And many others from that decade that I'd watch before SEINFELD. But I'll take MTM, HONEYMOONERS and especially LUCY over any of them.
