What a mediocre, childish fighter Brian Nielsen is...terrible referee...and a ring that looks like an advertisement for McDonalds.
Holmes would have taken this guy out in about 4 or 5 rounds max back in the day.

A challenger to the belt rarely wins if he doesn ´t KO the champ, and Larry didn´t do much in this fight. Brian Nielsen never had a good-looking style of boxing, but he had commitment and a 130-140Kg body, that wore many out of steam. He was actually never floored in 111 amateur and about 40-some pro-fights...but then he never met any truely gre at opponent.

All Nielsen did was lunge at Larry and get a charge out of the crowd. Holmes at least landed good shots and rocked Nielsen quite a few times.

This fight was far from fare. Larry Holmes boxed while Brian Nielsen fought ugly and awfoul. Larry Holmes would have won by SD and the IBO belt if it wasent for that the fight was in Nielsens homeland. Larry Holmes was eaven years later after his prime better then manny boxers.

I thought the fight was a draw. I gave Nielsen the close rounds, he was the IBO champion, for whatever that is worth, and it was in his home town. Heck, Larry won a few controversial decisions, and when he did have tough fights that he won, never gave the other fighter a rematch. Tim Witherspoon, Ken Norton come to mind.

Norton didn't deserve a rematch. He got KO'd by Shavers in the fight that determined who would fight Larry. That's why Larry fought Shavers again. Larry was on the wrong end of 3 decisions in his career, this being one of them.
