Amtrak 93-3, August/September 1993 Train Trip
went from Kansas City to Chicago to New Orleans to Dallas and back by rail via Amtrak in the late summer of 1993. "Ridin' on the City of New Orleans." I awake to a sunrise in Mississippi. I am traveling south on the Illinois Central passing the Mississippi small towns. You can hear it in the accents of my fellow riders. Eventually, Mississippi yields to the Louisiana bayou and Lake Pontchartrain, then New Orleans. While the coaches on the train may be older than Amtrak, the head end has Amtraks newest power. We were riding behing the Genesis locomotives built by GE, and the shot I took of the builders plate will show you that the engines were only a couple of months old at the time.
