This was the first anime music video I ever made, and so far, it's the only one. It was made over 10 years ago using a subtitled VHS copy of Bubblegum Crisis episode 4, Revenge Road, and a Super VHS editing machine. It took 10 hours to make and while not perfect, isn't bad for my first attempt. Because I had a tape with subtitles, I had to be careful to not use any clips with the subtitles in them, and along with that goes the lack of the characters talking during the music which when not synched up is often distracting, at least to me.
Episode 4 is about a guy (Gibson) who tries to exact revenge on the bikers who caused an accident which caused his girlfriend (Naomi) to go into a state of perpetual shock. Eventually he builds up a car (called the Griffon) and when it's complex computer system takes over, well, just watch the vid
eo...
This is probably my favorite Bubblegum Crisis episode only because something similar to this could happen today (other then the computer system in the Griffon), and probably does on occasion, unlike the other Bubblegum Crisis episodes dealing with boomers and laser satellites. Heart and Soul
by T'Pau is probably my favorite 80's song, and possibly my favorite all time song too. It might be a bit slow for all the action, but it goes well with the emotions that Gibson is feeling during the video. Many of the drum beats are synched up pretty good to the action as is the buildups in the par
ts of the song to the parts of the video.
Overall I tried to tell the story of Bubblegum Crisis episode 4 in just over 4 minutes. My title was done by filming a typed page with the macro lens on my camcorder. The name "Shortcut Version" is supposed to be vehicle and time related, get it, shortcut.
