I maintain music isn't a competition but Santana isn't even close to being at the same level as a Gary Moore or Eric Johnson. Santana is what seasoned guitar players recognize as a "box" player. Watch Eric Johnson's, fret work first - then watch Santana. After that check out Alan Holdsworth, Joe Satriani....then you'll begin to get an understanding. Santana isn't in the same league with a Gary Moore. Think about it!!

it depends what you compare.. if you compare soul in music and feeling; it differs from player to player so its impossible to say whos the better guitarist to play with feeling.
However, i think gary moore falls in more peoples taste than santana.
and if we're talking technicality, then you can't compare any of these "new blues" guitarists (Gary Moore, Santana, Eric Clapton, BB King etc) to the new guys out there; such as Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert.
